I was going to upgrade the HDS7 on console to a larger unit. Now I have decided to just add another HDS7. I sold one several months ago that in hindsight I should kept. Natural when I want to buy I am not seeing many for sale. Now looking at Hook7. What are major diffs?

Networking capabilities is one big difference. Processing power is better on the HDS series.

If you want a good stand alone graph, the hook or new hook2 series will be fine. If you want to network with your other HDS 7, get another HDS series graph. Lots of Gen 2 touch series for sale and some good deals ob hds gen 3 as well

Not really looking to network. Don't need a Gen 3 just Gen2. Not touch either. I have a wtb posting in classifieds. When I am not looking I see them all the time. Asked about Hook because Academy has great price. Any diff in resolution?

Recommending. Its basically a HDS gen2 at a decent price point and can be linked.

Not sure what linking is going to do for me. I will be running chart on one and GPS while moving and down/side scan on other at idle. I seem to recall that linking will not allow you to use the transducers that are connected to the master unit. If it does then I am all for linking.

Linking or networking two HDS units via an Ethernet cable allows you to view any transducer from any unit, share map cards between units (as long as both units are at least GEN-2) and have full waypoint syncing. Connecting units together with just a NMEA network will give you waypoint sharing, meaning that both units need to be turned on and connected to the NMEA network when the waypoint is created. A NMEA network is also required in order for any of the units to utilize any NMEA connected sensors such as an external GPS puck, heading sensor, temperature sensor, engine data etc...

thanks, all I care about is the ability to share transducers
