Anybody fish Aquilla lately? Hows the bite been? I have not fished there in probably 4-5 years.

No takers? I have been trolling this post because I am curious as well. Aquilla is one of my favorite early spring lakes because it seems to warm faster.

Never been there but I was told it wasn�t worth the time with Whitney so close.

But I do like trying new water so if you have any general advice or sections of Aquila I�m all ears. Shoot I don�t even know where is good to put in there.

When I first started going out there years ago we would fish some humps out in deep water that had heavy grass on them. Caught a lot of quality fish off of those, including my personal best. The last couple of years for whatever reason the grass hasn't been there. The fishing was much tougher. Soooooo, I haven't been back since late spring last year. In my opinion it fished better than Whitney when the grass was present.

last time i was there we put in by an overpass and fished timber all day with no bite. went back under the over pass and fished open water and caught 20 or so fish but nothing with any size. Have not been back with Waco, Trading house, brazos, belton, and Stilhouse being shorter drive. Ive found some spots to try out with the navionics app but still havent gone yet. Me and Whitney have a love, hate relationship.

I love to bowfish Whitney. Bass.... not so much.

Fished Tradinghouse today from 10 am to 2:30.
Three bites, three fish. Biggest one was 2.8 lbs.
Caught them all in 6-10 feet of water on green pumpkin T-rig.

I've been wanting to get out to Tradinghouse. I went to Waco today and fished the Reynolds Creek area and caught about a 2 lbr, finally! No other bites but this was a violent strike. The water was around 48-49 range.

Ive fished trading house so much its not even fun anymore and seems pretty predictable to where the fish will be. Sad thing is, no clubs ever fish there.

Aquilla is tough, but if you are up for the challenge go ahead! I would just stick to shallow water and points.

When Waco was shut down from the flooding it was the only lake available and I fished it a bunch then. The last few times I've been out there to fish I've been in the kayak.

Aquila is a [censored] mud hole. With an [censored] for a warden patrolling it.

Just my opinion.

He does patrol that lake like a hawk, I've fished here since the 90's and have never once seen him on Whitney, I don't get it.

He wrote me a bogus ticket a while back....it still cost me $75 in "court fees" and gas to beat it. I feel like I still "got fined". Haha.

I've been on Aquilla a bunch and have never seen any of the wardens.

There is one, well I guess we have a new one too that moved over from navarro county but not sure if he is stationed at the same place. The former navarro guy seems to be solid, I met him once at navarro mills.
He try to get ya for not having the throw cushion out in visual sight?, yeah that was a new one for me...

Why do they even have game warden on Aquila it�s like tpwd abandoned the lake anyway.
Just look at stocking history. That lake was great for a number of years so what happened?

No.....he got me for not having my current reg sticker displayed on my hull. I had the boat for two weeks and someone had peeled them off. I show him pictures I had taken a few days earlier of the boat with the decals on them. And told him I had my registration card in my truck. He said I was supposed to have the card in the boat. And then wrote a ticket for "expired registration". I had to drive to Hillsboro and pay a fee to have it dismissed....after I went and payed $20 to get replacement stickers.

He was gonna write me for something. He kept digging and digging. I was really glad he wrote it for something I could prove was wrong to a judge.

he was just doing his job it sounds like. seems you were responsible there for a couple of things.

Judge didn't think so.

He could have given the guy a break on the stickers.

As to throw cushion, I didn't know it had to be in plain sight. On my center console not a good place to do that and keep it in the boat at speed. Where do people put them?

I was fishing by myself....yes he asked about my throw cushion too. I had one, under the two extra life jackets, rain gear, and net. Ha. He then told me I should have it easier to access. I just said "yes sir"... as I thought of who would throw it to me.

And to top it all off...it was a tourney. He asked how I was doing? I said I had nothing. He responded by sayin I was in last place and could he see my live wells. And then started digging.


.....eh. I'm sure he was just doing his thing.
