This may seem like common sense but I want to be sure I'm doing this right. Am fixing to bait out my marina dock for catfish. I have 20% range cubes,soured milo, some deer corn a guy gave me and various kinds of pet food available. Need to know best method (how often, how much, etc.). Like to fish dock when it's too windy to take boat out or just want to sit and relax. Also need to know best food to attract shad to open slip beside me. Tried some of this at Joe Pool when I was there with limited success but Lewisville is no Joe Pool, thank God.

Soured mile and range cubes work great. I prefer range cubes so they don't puke that nasty milo all over my boat. Fill a burlap sack or make some 4" PVC with lots of holes drilled in it and hang it from the dock to put the scent out.

You will also attract carp...

How often are you having to refill that PVC?

All I do is throw out about a quart of range cubes in handfuls around the dock in an arc. Wait 30 minutes. I like dead shrimp for catfish bait for the eater fish under a cork rigged for the hook to be not too far off the bottom or big live baitfish out a little deeper for bigger fish.

Range cubes and dead shrimp combination keeps me busy with baiting and catching using two rods. Carp have so far shunned the shrimp.

Thanks guys. Anyone ever use deer corn or mix deer corn with milo? Just happen to have some but if it won't work or mess something up, I won't use it. Karstopo, beleive it or not, I just caught a big carp on a dead shad.

Tractor supply sells a commercial floating Catfish pellet that works pretty well. All of that other stuff would just attract carp and turtles. I've seen my neighbor throw out handfuls of the pellets,and channel cats would roll at the surface to eat them.

They float, so make sure the wind is in a favorable direction. I think it is the same feed commercial Catfish farmers use.

20% range cubes,go to Dollar Tree and buy some laundry mesh bags put about 10LB in a mesh bag at a time then let it down just off the bottom. If your not in a place that's highly fished you can add a small piece of styro foam to make it float to the top when empty.

I've had the best success for catfishing by pouring range cubes into a wire fish basket and hanging it off the side of the dock. Every once in a while, shake the string holding the basket to disperse the grains even more. My favorite method is doing this ongoing for several days to a week at a time. By the end the fish are so full of grain, their stomachs are literally about to burst, but they still bite the hook. This is in the summer months on Eufaula in OK.

In Texas, it doesn't seem to bring the catfish so much as carp, buffalo, and drum, and I'm not sure why that is.

The best results however were with simply using cattle cubes, as others in the post have said - Just take a quart of them and cast them around your fishing area..... Only I try to do it a day before I fish and every now and then when I'm not fishing just to train them to it.

Another thing you can do,even though it is not baiting. Is create structure near your dock that is beneficial to spawning Catfish. Sink tires, 50 gallon drums, old washing machines etc. its is amazing how well Catfish respond to such items.

My lake experienced a severe drought,and this obviously exposed items that were at the bottom of the lake for years. There was an old water heater,that had the end rusted off exposing the inside of the water heater. This water heater was on a shallow featureless plain,that was pretty [censored] poor Catfish habitat.

Whenever the lake got some water in it and submerged the water heater,Any jug or Trot line set near It was guaranteed to have fish. By placing permanent structure that Catfish like, you will always have Catfish near your dock.
