Heading to Canyon Lake for the 3rd time tomorrow. New to the area and have never done winter crappie fishing unless it was through the ice up north. Start by hitting the deeper structure? I have the state waypoints for their brush piles.

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome. Best action right now seems to be on the upriver or west portion of the lake. West of Cranes Mill Park /peninsula. My best crappie luck is actually at the mouth of the lake heading up the Guadalupe River. Water is 3-4� low, so slow down and watch for stumps!

Plus #1. I have pretty good results from the mouth of the Guadalupe up river for about half a mile!

Leaving the lake now. Fished brush piles up and down the lake with no success for crappie. Plenty of what I call white bass. I launch at Crane Mills so on my way out I shot up the river about 1/2 mile. Caught a few more white bass and called it a day. Not sure if my technique is wrong or what. Not used to fishing reservoirs, more used to glacial lakes of South Dakota that have often have a max depth of 25ft. Often get thrown off when depth changes 15 ft over a very short period here.

Heading out tomorrow. I�ll be happy with anything I catch after last outing.....

The water temp. is a little cold for fishing the planted brush piles. It seems they planted them
all about the same dept of water. Later in the year, when the water warms up some of the piles are great.
Up river is still hit and miss for crappie. Hope this helps.
