I have been unable to upload photos directly from my iPad off and on for over a year now. The last few months, no matter what I do, I get the needs to be JPG or PNG format error.
I just updated my IOS to 11.2.2, the most recent update. I still cannot up.oad photos without getting the error from the forum I mentioned above.
Can anyone help?

Have you looked to see how large the image that you are trying to upload is? Do you get this error message or a black box/icon?

Have you looked to see how large the image that you are trying to upload is? Do you get this error message or a black box/icon? Hey Cman, thats the error I get. Is it because the file is too big or because its the wrong format? I never changed either the size or format, and Im not talking Apples stupid live photos, either. This happens with photos I download from the internet and also I cant post them when I use the link function.

The error message means that the image is in the wrong format.
This is mac related. Save the image to jpg or png vs jpeg. Internet has a few tutorial on how to do that.

I understand that it means my photos are not in jpeg or png formatting. I am seeing that Apple decided to use a new format to make the images smaller, allowing for more photos to be stored and that it doesnt play nice with basically anything non-Apple.
One article I saw said I should be able to change the format settings, but that was for the first version of IOS 11 and appears to no longer be an option in version 11.2.
Thanks for trying to help, Chickenman. Ill keep trying to figure it out.

For androids, the fix to resize is to email yourself the image from the devise that the image is stored on. Resize the image at that time (70%, 50%, and 30% are my options I think). Open email and save the newly resized image. Upload the new smaller image.

On my old s5 I just texted the pics back to my phone and saved them, it corrected the format issue, my new Android uploads just fine

Both show up as options, with another option (Dropbox) but it wont let me select any of them. This makes it seem like a setting problem for me, but I cant figure out which setting.

When I take a screenshot, it goes into the screenshot folder. Ive never been asked to resize a photo, nor do I see an option to do so. At this point, I feel like its a stupid setting that needs to be changed. Its gotta be something silly like that.

If anyone that can post pictures directly from their iPad is reading this, can you post screen shots of your photo settings? Ive tried to mess around with the settings in both photos and camera and still am unable to upload directly from my iPad.
Cast has tried helping me as well. I emailed him a photo and he was able to post it in a PM. Thanks, Cast, for offering to help and taking the time.
Cast mentioned that I can use the URL from the photo he sent to me, which is great, but I dont want to post that picture specifically, I want to be able to upload direct from iPad, which other members are saying they can do and I used to be able to do.

You got me curious. Have you looked at this? It looks promising. I havent. Other members have no problem uploading directly from their iPad without doing anything other than hitting the icon with the blue arrow, selecting the file and uploading. I used to be able to do it from my iPad. Id prefer not to have to spend money on a converter or upload to a third party or email it to myself, especially when the direct upload functionality is there already. Its frustrating that it wont work, which is why I asked other users that can do what Im talking about to post screen shots of their settings, because I think Ive tried every combination that makes sense, but maybe not.

We're working on it. I tried this ... emailed the photo to myself. When you attach it to an email, reduce the size. The attached photo is a .jpg. The problem is, when you save the photo on your iPad, it converts back to some type of Apple file.
The above it a good way to resize a file, but is not a solution to the file format problem.
I'll update when (and if) we find a workaround.

Duck_Hunter-
When you take a screenshot, are you letting it auto-save?

When you take a screenshot, are you letting it auto-save? I think so, but can you explain what you mean by that? Im not doing anything special to it. Im taking a screen shot, then trying to access it from the screen shot library. It doesnt matter what library I try to access photos from, I get the jpeg/png error.

I thought that might affect it, but it doesn't. We tried multiple iPads and iPhones and can't reproduce your problem.

Can someone post a screen shot of their iPad settings related to camera and photo? Ive asked here and THF and no one responded, unless I missed it. This will allow me to make sure my settings are correct and its something else, like Cast said. This is one of those times it will start to work when you hand it to the Apple Genius guy. Youre probably right, and I will be extremely annoyed.
