Got a couple of pictures tonight of the scars that showed up on several raccoons earlier this winter during the breeding season I would guess. Doesn't look nearly as bad as when they were fresh. I still don't know if that's a bite mark or claw marks. It looks more like another coon had two hand fulls and just ripped the skin back forming a V.

When I tapped and sold hides, the fur buyer would discount all hides with tick rubs.

That there sir is a common tick rub.

hmmm.. interesting. I'll have to watch them more closely as they do scratch a lot but it seems to be in the same place that I see them get attacked by others as well. noidea

I googled everything I could on tick rubs, scarring of raccoon pelt pics, grading of pelts... couldn't find a single picture or story of what I was looking for. I'm sticking with breeding season after watching video below.
