Does anyone run or familiar with this setup? Can a external lowrance transducer be ran through the groove just like the hummingbird transducer? I've been told that a lowrance cable is thicker than a birds but I can't find abything online to back that up.

No, wont fit the shaft. You can still use an external just takes some brain storming, I ran a lss1 on my terrova for years.

That's what I was hoping to hear. I like the idea of the cable guard for most cases. I however like to get up in that thick cover and I'm afraid the separation from the shaft will be an issue. This is last years model that has the groove. Thanks.

It's the hook 7 transducer. Not sure how thick it is in comparison to the lss series but it is thicker than my helix transducer cable.

I had a similar situation. I bought the newer Terrova (without the channel down the shaft) and found the following procedure (the one a little ways down the page from Scott Cook), which is what I did so that I could get my side imaging transducer on the trolling motor. I've had it on for about 6 months and am happy with it. I hope this link works... http://www.bbcboards.net/showthread.php?t=797099&p=8255251&viewfull=1#post8255251

It's the hook 7 transducer. Not sure how thick it is in comparison to the lss series but it is thicker than my helix transducer cable. I purchased the hook2 9". I took the transducer up there and held up to the groove. Plenty of room due to the new cables having a much smaller diameter than my hds. Bought the terrova and started the install this afternoon. No need for the cable guard which would have kept me from buying the terrova in the first place. Thanks for everyone help!
