This was my first TTZ event. It was crazy. I think 200 boats is just too much for a lake the size of LBJ. Every hump, grass bed, drop off, and point had 2-3 boats or more surrounding it. The main grass patch across from the Yacht Club probably had 30-40 boats all stacked together fishing it.

Evidently the first place team had 3 fish over 8 pounds before 10am, and went early to get them weighed and released, then continued fishing.

We came in 101st place with 2 fish for 3.63. The first fish was a 16" Guadalupe that looked like a football. The fattest Guad I've ever seen. Actually looking at LJB record, It might have been very close to the lake record. I wish I had weighed it separately

Don't fish Basschamps then. It'll have over 200 teams probably

So you might have done better if it was only a 20 boat tournament? grin

Approx 44% of the field (about 174 anglers) did not weigh a single fish, that is incredible to me. I was there one Saturday and I could not believe seeing boats waiting in line to fish spots. What a cluster [censored].

Thats a heck of a stringer on any lake. Congrats to the winners. I have fished that lake quite a bit and it's always feast or famine for me.

yeah probably? depends if it was against a random selection of the 200 teams or the top 19 smile

we pre-fished and found a bunch of spots we had success on and planned to fish, but there was a line of people at each of our spots at 730am already smile

I am very new to big tournament fishing so feel free to laugh at me!

Most teams dump their fish if they aren't in the money. Look at Basschamps, shows 230 zero's out if 332 teams on arguably the best lake in Texas. Promise you those aren't all zeros

Not too long ago, 15 pounds would've won on that lake. Champs started going there, and guys started putting time in TOW and prolly developing their honey holes so they could win big tourneys. I found a spot full of 3 pounders one day, and thought I was hot [CENSORED]

True story, Randy Dearman fished it and I guarantee you he didn't 0. Why stand in a weigh-in line for 30 minutes when you know you're sack won't make a check and those guys know. 330 boats on Rayburn ? Typical winter weekend. You should have seen 1300 boats on Fork.

I agree that the the lake is better when the fish want to be around the docks, it just sets up better for a tournament that way. And yes I was kind of surprised to see the number of boats in some areas during the day. I don't think I've ever seen 18 boats on one point before but I did yesterday. I don't think it was a cluster though. I think Brian and that crew run great tournaments. The ramp was staffed as was the parking lot and the weigh line for me was 2 people long, maybe 2 minutes. There were plenty of fish to be caught in other areas that weren't as covered up by boats but the obvious spots were definitely crowded.

I would love to fish that lake in March/April vs. January. I thought opening on Travis last year in January was a good call and it had nearly 300 IIRC and I didn't have a boat in any spot I wanted to fish.

Or Rayburn in McDonald's with 3 times that. I've seen some enourmous tournaments growing up in Rayburn. Doesn't bother me. A lake that gets pressured the bass get used to it. We fished champs yesterday and caught 14+lbs in the middle of probably 12-15 boats. Never saw a boat catch a fish all day. It's more about the spot and knowing the exact cast to duplicate this time of year.

Thats some freaking weight anywhere! LBJ is really under valued as a lake with a good population of bass.
