Ok, we can fight each other here about it or pester them into doing something about it. I started a website for the cause. It is www.opensquawcreek.com. If you really want to fight to get this awesome fishery open again go there and register. There is not much there now because it is new. With the help of like minded people we can at least show them we are organizing to do battle with them. At the very least make them take out the fish we paid for to stock in local lakes. If you go there just to say "You're wasting your time" don't bother joining.

The best way to get TXU to open it is show them a way it will allow them to give a bigger bonus to their top execs and lay off more people. If you could figure out a way to tie that into opening the lake we could fish there tomorrow.

That lake is prime habitat, why don't they get in enrolled in operation world record program that some of the smaller city lakes are getting into now. If the place starts producing trophies they could start charging major $$$ at the boat ramps just like the city of lubbock does at alan henry. I mean people come all the way from colorado to fish alan henry, TXU has a major financial opportunity just sitting there and they are doing nothing with it.

Here is a link to my website if anyone really wants to switch from TXU to Stream Energy. Not trying to use this post as a way to get customers to switch over but I switched over about 2 years ago and have been very pleased with Stream, with the deregulation laws Streams rates will always be lower than TXU. http://www.jasonmorris.igniteinc.biz/index.asp . Actually I signed up as an associate so I could switch others over. I have never fished Sqaw Creek but sure would like to one day!

Yeah whats really bad about that is that it was the public that was overcharged by TXU--The PUC may fine TXU $210 million but do you think that money is going to be distributed to the people that were overcharged?? No it will go back to the state and then TXU will raise our rates to compensate for the lost revenue.

If you think switching electric companies is going to hurt TXU, think again. They make their money making the electricity. They don't care who does the billing. They got caught last summer of keeping some plants off line to raise the cost of electricity. The Public Utility Commission is fining them $210,000,000 and they are threatening the State with shutting down plants that are not profitable. This will cause problems with the state power grid this summer, causing brown out conditions. If they are willing to take on the State of Texas what makes you think they will bow to a bunch of fishermen?? Another reason why de-regulation was a bad idea, I hope TXU keeps acting like a spoiled child and the state re-regulates their a$$.

O K I'm new here and new at this computer thang but here goes nuthin'. I was under the understanding that Squaw Creek was closed due to a nuclear spill on 9/10/01. My thoughts are, that if thats the case why not at least open the lake with catch and release only. I aint scarred. I aint havin any more kids!

Tony, it has nothing to do with a nuclear spill on 9/10/01.
It has to do with the idiotic terrorist attack on 9/11.
They think that a nuclear power plant lake is a prime terrorist target...

If you are interested in re-opening Squaw Creek, you should partner up with Scuba organisations. I used to dive at this lake every weekend in the mid eighties. It was also used as a teaching and certification lake by a lot of Scuba schools.

I remember every time I was there, folks were diving, and how slick that dog gone ramp was. Man, I miss that lake. I had some good mmemories there. Bass, Catfish and Crappie. Oh well we still got Aquilla and Whitney and Granbury and P. K. And the memories. God bless America.

Not trying to offend anyone here, but just accept the reality. As long as they think there is a threat they are not going to open this lake!!!! Quit all the whining and just go fish another lake. I think the great state of Texas has plenty of lakes with trophy fish in them. You can only beat a dead horse so long until people get tired of hearing it. Just my .02 worth.

You're right, we shouldn't complain as they take our lakes from us as long as they leave a couple for us to put a boat on. Don't whine either as they take our hiways from us, sell them to a foreign country and charge us to drive on them.

A comment on Squaw Creek: First, I live next door to the fella that oversee's the property for TU. I have been in the park a number of times since it's closing. The facilities that you probably recall are no longer there. The roads into the ramp have not been maintained and are filled with cracks and pot holes. To open the park safely those issues would have to be remedied. Second, Squaw Creek is cooled by water pumped into it from the Brazos. Since 911 and the closing of the lake, the Brazos has experienced a huge Golden Alae bloom several seasons long. What do you imagine happened to all those fish that were stocked previously? I doubt they are immune to the GA effects. I have heard in a bloom, fish seek deep water to escape it. SC is a deep lake near the spillway. If the fish population escaped the effects or not is not known to me. I will ask my neighbor if he knows if it had an effect or not. I would like to see it open as I live only 4 miles form the gate. I like the idea of it opening with a restricted use. After a certification process, you draw a slot and are allowed into and on the reseviour on certain dates. my $.02

Dang that Golden Algae. That stuff is a burr under my saddle. I hate hearing that about the park, that breaks my heart. That was a good facility. It's important that we make sure this doesn't happen to any of our other lakes, power plant or not. Being a child of the sixties a think we should have a demonstration on the main road (i think its 144) with signs and the whole nine yards. We could even call Saul Garza, i heard he's a fisherman. But more important than anything else, is, that we stick together. It's already us against them, lets not make it us against us against them. That meens they win. Maybe we could get together on a date. That would be better than just talking about it, although this has been good therapy 4 me. Charge!!!!!!!

all of the verbage is lost unless it is directed towards the legislators who can create the necessary result. otherwise, the obvious is that the wind is only directing the resultant urination back. Please contact your representative(s) on this issue!!!!

I am not so sure that the golden algae will affect the fauna in Squaw Creek due to the fact that the temperature does not get cold enough for it to have the bloom that it does in lakes without power plants. To my knowledge, the only fish kill that they have endured there in the past several years was this past summer when the breaker was thrown on the pump that supplies the cool water into the lake was down for a couple of days and alot of the fish in the cove died. From what I was told by a good friend who works park security was that there were several thousand dead bass up to 10 lbs dead, the smell was unbearable and the population of vultures increased 100 fold.

Was the Golden Algea statement put out by TU's PR dept? Another way to say, "You don't want to fish our crummy water anyway". I would still love to fish that Golden Algea infested water anyway.
