I was using tungsten electrodes as spike weights before they actually formed one into the shape of a bullet weight.

I was using tungsten electrodes as spike weights before they actually formed one into the shape of a bullet weight. Ok, so you were using tungsten 'nail weights' before anyone ever thought to come up with a bullet weight made of nickel and tungsten. There was a reason for the combo of metals. Flippin Out, you might should do a little research on the subject, and brush up on your reading comprehension while you're at it. I never said Roland Martin was the man who developed the weight. That was Mark Pack. Roland is the one who introduced the weight to the world through his tv shows. For the first two years of production. In partnership with Mark.

Had a guide trip with Mr. Pack, he told us that he developed the weights, pretty cool if you ask me.

Roland has always been a promoter. Obnoxiously so at times. But he lives, breathes, eats and sleeps fishing. Even today in his mid 70's, the man is obsessed with everything fishing. Particularly the competitive aspects.
A bit of trivia for those who don't know. Who introduced the tungsten-nickel worm weight to the world? Roland. Who came up with the metallurgical formula, design and production of that weight?
Mark Pack. So Roland has been a closet metallurgist in his spare time? ...and a production engineer? LMAO! I would imagine that the weights we use are NOT a unique-to-fishing tungsten formulation; the application just isn't that critical. We need something dense and hard, which can be satisfied by many formulas. Which exact one gets used by each supplier is likely a cost/availability matter. A unique "metallurgical formula" for such a tiny volume production of material would drive the price up to be like space shuttle parts. Design? Aren't they just each supplier's rendition of a bullet weigh shape in general? Are we concerned with aerodynamics for Mach 2 performance, or maybe an extreme temperature range? Is there a specific shape that only works if the material is tungsten? The examples revealing the ridiculousness of the stated claims can go on and on. Maybe Roland thought of looking for a higher density material, and discovered by talking with others that the answer to that was "something made of tungsten" is what you want. I don't know either way, but I would find it very very far-fetched and odd that he "drove" the technology. How many of you actually believe an angler designed a rod? (Design = choose actual materials, resin, wall thickness, arbor size & taper, lamination pressure, etc.) Anglers might say "I want a rod that bends like blah blah" and then they try what the supplier brings them. They'll try that prototype and say something like "it needs a little more power" or "it needs to bend more into the backbone" etc.....and then the supplier updates the design and delivers yet another prototype for testing. In general, anglers TEST; they are not designers, nor production engineers. By the tone in your voice im guessing your an Engineer and just got your feelings hurt that someone without an engineering degree was smart enough to come up with a great idea. aggie to right?

I could be wrong, but I'm guessing that 19lber. came out of a gill net.

I still can't believe they killed that 19 lber..... Times have changed. Taking real fish to the taxidermist was common back then. Watching that video made me remember how much he used to irritate me....but in a good way. Kind of like my wife sometimes irritates me! SON!! Watching it also reminds me why his son irritates me(also in a good way). Its hereditary! OMG, Its a giant!! Its a giant bass!!

It may have been the flying lure but the one that would glide away from you on slack line worked for me a couple of times in getting under docks. Caught my PB Spotted Bass 7.13 lbs on a Zebco 33 and the small white Flying Lure while Crappie fishing

I still have one of the big deluxe kits that came with the VHS tape and whatever else inside of it. Still factory sealed. I bought it for display where I keep my rods on the rod rack. Have been really tempted to sell it since they have started to climb in value.
They really do work. Cant say they work any better than some other lures but they do catch fish even on our heavy pressured urban lakes.
