I am 77 years old. I have been bass fishing for 56 years. I fish Lake Palestine 2 to 4 days per week. Last year I told my wife it was about over. I have Parkinson. I have fished 10 years with the disease but it is about to get me. I can not fish by myself any more and can only fish about 4 hours at a time. I am having a very hard time handling this but it will be OK. I am going to Palestine with my daughters boy friend. Time has past by on 8 to 10 hours day.
Thanks Aubrey

Yep, I quit tournament fishing a few years ago and now concentrate on "fun lakes" and catching big bass. Don't have to worry about the weather - if it sucks I just stay home. Bass boats last a lot longer and if I feel like sleeping in, I can always hit the water at the crack of 8:30.

we have a whole club of mostly 60 and 70 year old anglers (and one that is 81) that make it a point to get out on the water weekly. As long as the drive is there for the competition (friendly that is) and the body allows it to happen it is going to happen.
Personally right now I am still dealing with two new knees and a new right shoulder. My PT guys says I may never been able to do the over shoulder casting like I have done in the past. But dam it I am still going to get out there with my fellow members as soon as I can the best that I can. He said no more 75 yard casts with the yellow magic or finesse worm. That would break my heart. I'll be 76 this year.
62 is nothing. Keep going and don't give up the bass for crappies. The fun is still there.

I'm right there with you guys. I still work out regularly just to try to keep the body somewhat in shape. Nothing strenuous of course but a 2.5 mile walk regularly and a bit of light weight lifting will do wonders. I still fish champs and get a check occasionally. Trust me its not a mentality, it has everything to do with what the body can or cannot do. I'm proud of us older guys we just refuse to give up. Keep at it guys we can still show these young whippersnappers a thing or two!!!

Not to hijack, but congratulations for the induction of the Lake Fork Sportsman's Association into the Texas Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame, Mr. Allen. I know there are a ton of other people who are members of and contributors to LFSA. Hats off to all of you!

Okay...this is complete awesomeness. This stream got me thinking and I wound up on youtube...check this, first the boats, Ranger 361 (which the first time I saw one was at the Dallas boat show and I remember thinking "they'll never make a cooler big boat"). 150 motors, check the box flasher on the boat in the intro, 24 volt trolling motors, vests with the patches and original old school trucker hats that stuck up about 6 inches above your head!

Oh well....was 94 Bassmaster on Rayburn Great video Ken, did you notice Guy Eaker only had 2 rods on deck. These days it's common to see the BASS boys with 10-12 rods on the deck. I had a Ranger 374 once and was a great fishing boat.

I want to retire but I still love my job. Turning 65 in a month so Im not as agile as I once was. My boys and wife dont want me going out alone but Im not concerned. I just dont want to tie up a ramp too long when Im by myself. I need a new partner that can go on a moments notice. Then I might get out more. I still fish club and occasionally other events.
Ive updated to an Ultrex in December and havent even been out yet. Sad really.
But mostly I dont like the cold anymore. Yet all my best tournaments were when it was cold. That was a decade or more ago though.
I do need to get more active to improve my agility. No more excuses. Just do it.

I do need to get more active to improve my agility. No more excuses. Just do it. Fishing during the week is a whole different ball game than fishing on the weekend basseditor. First off you're mostly dealing with people in your same situation and secondly you can go a little later after the early bunch has launched. Plan your launch procedure so that it eliminates most of the safety issues. Go to a lake with two lane ramps and a courtesy dock. If you wait until a perfect time or situation arises to do the things you love to do you'll never do them. Time to be really good to yourself, you've earned it.
