Just wondering if it is still in operation. I know the planned shut down date is February 12th.

According to this article, if the Big Brown Plant is not sold, it will shut down Feb 12.

Can't find any info on whether or not it's still producing. Did see where the plants at Monticello and Sandow are closing also.

This morning both stacks were blowing steam. Actually Luminant put out a notice Monday night that their grid was short on power and people needed to conserve if possible. Makes you wonder what is going to happen during peak summer and winter demand going forward. A friend of mine that works at Big Brown said they are being told that the last day of production is going to be February 24th.

Really makes you wonder how they are going to keep up with demand after shutting down this power plant.

With nobody able to get permits for nuclear plants(two built in Texas/two cancelled while under construction) and all the talk of cheap and unlimited natural gas but no new natural gas plants being built and the constant shutting down of these larger dirty coal plants(Monticello, Fairfield...)combined with the very sporadic running of the antiquated old gas plants(Arlington, Mountain Creek...) I can not imagine how we have not had more shortages already!

Agree. They were worried about the grid with this minor two week cold snap---does not inspire confidence.

They need a better plan and act on it quickly.

Don't worry. They'll "solve" this problem with higher rates. It's inevitable.

You know what is really strange? FCL seems to never stop producing and it's a COAL-FIRED plant. Bastrop never runs and it is a natural gas facility! AND THEY ARE ONLY 35 MILES APART!

Don't really get it either, Tradinghouse was a gas fired plant and they closed it down 10 years ago and imploded it 3 years ago.

The problem wasnt the coal, it was Luminant. Poor investments in a regulated market. Grid sustainability is no problem considering wind farms fill in voids. With the outages in Transmission/Distribution side, its a wonder we get power anyways.
