People are starting to show up and fish now. But it will be getting better around the end of the month.

Anyone willing to give an old retired navy Chief some tips on this? I live in Athens and drive by here all the time. Would love to get into some of the action. I normally use a float tube but don't know how much current there is here. Also do you get these things on lures? Bait? Is the action the sort where you can bank fish?

Any info would be greatly appreciated. I've been amusing myself with trout until the sunfish start back up on Lake Athens and this sounds like a good way yo wet a line.

Cheers Y'all.

I have not fished there in a couple years, but there is normally a little bit of a current. Still fish able from a float tube. As for catching those little rascals. I recommend a 1/16oz jig head with a willow blade and white grub tail. A ultra light spinning reel. Find a deep spot in the river. Then cadt across and drag it back very slowly. Expect to get hung up and lose some tackle.

Good luck to you.

I don't always catch fish, but when I do, I prefer Dos Hybrids

Flags With no more rain than we've had this year a tube should work fine . I've always bank fished this area, plenty of access from the bank. Rooster tails , 1/8 oz jigs in white and chartreuse , don't get to extravagant with lures because there are lots of brush/roots to break off on. My buddy and I call that area the land of a thousand jigs because of all the lures we've lost. But when the fish turn on it is one of my fav spots in Texas

Best lure up there is a small chartruse roadrunner with hot pink head. You can always tell
when the run is on , walmart and Academy in Tyler will be sold out of small roadrunners.

For those that are inexperienced, please study up on how to identify a hybrid striper from a white bass. I have fished there from time to time over the years and see lots of people keeping undersized hybrids. You have to pay for the Game Warden to teach you the difference.
