Ok boat guru�s. I�m in the market for a new to me boat, have the opportunity to buy a 2000 Skeeter zx202c with a Yamaha 225 I believe the ox66 motor. What do y�all know about this model and motor I�ve read great things about these motors. The owner had a compression test done last year should I do another or put it on the water and just test drive it. I know these motors can�t give an hour readout so was wondering if putting in the shop, not even a year later is worth it? What say y�all?

Have mechanic check it out a lot can happen in a year. Yes, get it on the water and check every switch, display, latch, hatch, and other item in the boat. Once off the water pull the plug and check for water in the bilge.

Definitely do the compression check. Both boat and motor are great. Negotiate. You've got the upper hand.

There's a lot to discover buying an 18 yr. old boat and unfortunately it's hard to justify spending the money to have all the possible issues checked but if you really like the boat, the price, the electronics and the seats and carpet are acceptable I would definitely have the compression checked and lower unit checked. If that turns out good then a test drive is in order. Gonna cost somebody some money and time though, up to you if it's worth it. If you decide to have it checked I recommend Rockwall Marine east of Dallas and Fun N Sun west of Dallas. Good luck, hope everything works in your favor.

Thanks for the info. No it�s not the boat listed here. The price point is phenomenal for the boat is what caught my attention. No electronics, carpet is fine but seats need to be redone. I�ll have a mechanic check it out if I decide that I like it when I get to go look at it!

Tommy at Rockwall is my go to guy for all things boat related. Agree with the previous posts and would add one more. Have them lift it off the trailer a few inches so you can go over the entire bottom of the boat. Amazing what the bunks can hide that will cost you money to fix.

Just pointing out, someone correct me if I'm wrong as it's a little later model, but wasn't the 202 only rated for a 200? Maybe that's only the earlier ones. I don't really care about the morals of overpowering a boat, I'm into fast things, but just from an insurance claim side make sure that isn't over powered. If you don't care about insuring that old of a boat, then yee yee fish on! And if the boat is actually rated for a 225 and I'm just an idiot... then yeeyee I'm an idiot fish on!

No complaints at all with my 99 ZX202C powered with a yamaha 200. The max hp rating on mine is 200.

I�ve seen them with both motors. Not sure what the difference was. My old one was rated for a 200. It was a 2000. Loved mine. Sure do miss it.

I had a 2000 ZX202c, it was rated for a 225. If memory serves they changed the rating in 2000 right before they introduced the ZX225. Mine was one of the last 202's made before the ZX225 debuted as the new model. You will be very happy with this boat. I can assure you of that.
