Both my big toes are infected, one from a cut and the other from a large blister that that took skin off. They have been slow healing do to the diabetes.
The middle instructions I will find almost impossible? When not in bed I must lie down with the feet elevated waist high for one half hour. That is ever half hour every day. I may do normal activities during the active half hour. That in a itself is easy to do because I spend most of my time to n bed or in an office chair anyway. The problem is when I need to go to the store or the doctor. I guess its time to call home health.

Its likely that they suggest you follow this to the best of your ability.
I mean I think they know it wont be 100%. If you go to the store so be it... but yea call and ask for clarity!

Well, my step mom just lost her leg for the same thing. She's diabetic, got an infection that wasn't taken care of or couldn't control. Turned into gangreen. Started on her little toe.

The purpose is to promote venous blood return. I am sure the doctor did not mean for you not participate in the activities of daily living. A message to his nurse will probably clarify your concerns. Most providers are now set up to access them by computer through a healthcare network.

The intent is for you, as others mentioned, is to follow it to the best of your ability. If you really need clarification give them a call.

follow as closely as possible, use common sense. As stated this is to improve venous blood flow.

i think it means you are supposed to do YOGA for 30 minutes every couple hours! Please dont get your foot stuck behind your head though!!!! seriously, probably trying to decrease the fluid retention in the lower extremities by elevating- which in turn helps circulation by assisting in venous blood return. do you have any diabetic socks you can wear while up and moving? walgreens/cvs sells them in the diabetic section. getting up and moving around will do you some good. if you have CHF, take it easy when moving or exerting yourself.

A home care should contact me today.
Guess I wasn't taking this serious enough.
Infected toe can lead to bone which means losing some body parts.
Staying off my feet is to insure blood flow to promote healing.
Here I was all worried about my heart and kidneys and its a toe that causes more trouble.

Its never what you think that takes you out.
One time I was squaring up with some dudes to brawl and I had my eye on the big guy who was running at the mouth all reckless when out of no where the little 5 foot nothing guy cold cocked me and I went down like a sack of taters.
Its always the one you least suspect that gets you.

Grandpa, What ever you do, do take the Viagra pill as prescribed. We don't want you rolling out out of bed and onto the floor. Seriously, here's to better days for ya sir!

I would listen to the DR's orders best you can Gpa. I don't think you would want to loose a limb or 2.

Here I was all worried about my heart and kidneys and its a toe that causes more trouble. I'm tellin ya. My step mom lost her leg due to your exact circumstances. It has been a month and she is totally depressed and doesn't get out of bed. Trying to learn to even get to the bathroom. And she has my dads help. You being alone would be catastrophic.

follow as closely as possible, use common sense. As stated this is to improve venous blood flow. yep, I had a full flap skin graph to fix a spot on my foot that staph ate through. Staph came after having 7 pins and 2 screws placed to fix a broken heal. I often think that I would have been better off without the surgery. I had to wait for fracture blisters to clear so by the time I got the original surgery the bones were 90% healed. When I got the skin graph I could not put my foot down at all for a week. I rode home in my sisters SUV with my foot on pillows. I asked the doc what I was supposed to do when I had to sit on the throne. He just said make it quick. I was like I have not gone in 6 days while in this stupid hospital. It may not be quick the first time. I sat there with one foot up on my scooter. Wiping was a real challenge. Grandpa, did the doc tell you to also avoid caffeine?
