Is anyone running a Honda 250 on their 21 ft bassboat. I know some of the elite guys are running them but I have not heard any performance numbers. Just curious if anyone has any info good or bad on them.

From what I hear they are great motors! I hear they're super reliable! They are pretty expensive; I believe more so than a SHO. I could be wrong about that though. I also take away that they just don't have the pure performance of a Mercury or Yamaha. I do see quite a bit of them on pontoon boats.

They are ssslllooowwww. I've seen 80mph boats with sho and mercs run high 60s with a Honda. You can also tell they are a lot of weight on the back. As far as reliability, I believe the new sho is just as reliable. I do know Yamaha uses a lot higher grade stainless in their motors.

Ive seen the Honda 4 strokes with as many as 4500 hours on them. They are dependable motors but their dogs as far as speed, and the weight is massive. I run a Merc on my bass boat because of the weight and performance but I have a Honda 150 on my bay boat for the dependability since we sometimes run 5 to 10 miles out in the gulf.

Interesting! I would've thought that the Honda would be the heaviest!

I have been running a Honda 225 for over 10 years now. Great reliability, Great Fuel Economy, same engine as the Honda Odyssey minivan. The Coast Guard has been using them "forever". I have personally seen the engine reports from the Livingston Marine dealer (Coast Guard Service) with over 7500 and over 10,000 hrs with no major motor repairs. (They keep messing up the lower units on the oyster beds!) LOL.
With the new 250 and their changes and the high speed lower unit they are better on the speed. Paul Elias runs one on his Bass Cat but I do not know the exact speed. They are not the Fastest but they are more reliable and have not had the motor problems like some of the others.
It all depends on what you are looking for? Reliability - I would rank as the highest. Fuel Economy and No-Oil use- High ranking, Speed - Medium rank.

fished a tourney on choke with Ray Brazier back in the day. I think he was running a 225. slow but ran good. I remember it being very quiet.

Im sure that the Honda is a solid engine. It amazes me that the Yamaha (primarily because of their Skeeter connection) has taken a big share of the outboard market. I see more and more Yammies on the backs of Rangers and Bass Cats. Yamaha's reputation is growing.
Given the chance, Honda should do the same. I never cared for speed, just reliability on the water. And the YAmaha has that!
Good Luck

Honda cost the same as a pro xs. A verado and sho is 2000-2500 more on average.

I see tons of Honda's at the coast on commercial boats and coast guard. They aren't too worried about losing out on the bass boat market I bet

This is so screwed up.

4 stroke

4 stroke

2 stroke

The Pro xs is around 500lbs and the SHO is around 500lbs, Honda and Suzukis are 100lbs more.

Do you know where Suzukis come in at price wise?
