Anyone have experience with the glass AND non-glass Champ XP crankbait rods?
I'm looking for a good rod to throw 2.5 size squarebills. I have the 735 & 736CB's glass but they are a touch heavy but great for spinnerbaits and chatterbaits. I'm curious if the non-glass versions are noticeably lighter?
Also I'd like to be able to thrown both 1.5 & 2.5's on the same rod. The rods specs can handle both but the 2.5 would be on the upper-ish end of the 704CB.
Thoughts?

705cb should be perfect for 2.5s i have the 705 cb and it works well as a jerkbait/big squarebill rod....even the 1.5s if you really need it to but will be a little stiff. ill be getting two 705 glass and 765 glass this week. will let you know if i can tell that much of a difference. I have come to prefer glass for cranks instead of carbon just because the old cliche "it loads better", for me i see it in casting as well as landing fish. I fish with cheaper quantum glass rods now and cant wait to try out the rods i ordered.

i have both the 704 glass and 705 glass. I much prefer the 704. I throw the Xcite Squarebills and smaller top waters; Yellow magic and Whopper Plopper 90 on the 704 and it's the perfect rod. The 705 glass is a big difference ( stiffer ) than the 704. I throw larger sq bills and med diver CB's on it.
Hope that helps.

Hope that helps. Which one would you throw a 2.5 on? honestly, I'd throw it on a different rod altogether. I do not like the 705 glass. it's too stiff and I prefer a softer tip when throwing crankbaits. I currently use a Dobyns Extreme 742 to throw 2.5s but that rod is about $100 more than the 705. the 704 glass would handle the 2.5, but as you stated.. It's on the upper side and you'd be pushing it. I'm a big fan of Dobyns. The 704 glass is one of my favorites and I can't say enough good things about it, but I throw smaller size baits on it.

That's interesting. I was actually thinking about throwing one on my Extreme 743 to see how it felt.

got to try the rods i ordered out for about half hour today. the glass is so much better. The 705cbmf threw 1.5 really well, no doubt a 2.5 would be perfect too.
