What are some of the best fishing barges in the DFW area for crappie? I want to take the kids out and want a decent chance at some keepers..

Keep on keepin' on

I've been getting some good reports from the barge on Lake Weatherford. Judging by this cold front coming in, I imagine it will be shoulder to shoulder in there this weekend.

Before they moved the barge at lake weatherford it was hands down the best "crappie House" in DFW. Now it's hit or miss but very good when they move in.
You just have to get in line to fish the deep side next to the channel if they are eating. I imagine with this front today and through out the weekend they will show up to eat. good luck. I know the slips up at west bay on Eagle Mt. are pretty good for crappie. It is not protected from the wind.

I caught the most quality fish at LL fishing barge and loved it when the old guys (Harold and John) were still alive. Now it's just 'OK", but rent slips nearby now. Weatherford and RayBob were 'ok', but all small fish. Never went to Joe Pool.

I went last night from 7pm-9:30pm. Keepers wise it was not very good, only 2, but if you just want to feel the thump and catch a mess of 8 fish, then get on out there! I would imagine I caught around 40 or so short fish, but hey it was better than catching nothing. I fished outside over on the deeper creek channel side. Nothing special, just dead sticking a 2 emerald shiner power minnow on a pink 1/16oz jighead. They were thumping the fire out of it, it was fun. You may consider fluorocarbon, I feel like it makes a difference on that barge. After the next arctic front next week, they should be in there like flies on cow dung. I bet Wednesday is good... Good luck.

Thanks! Heading out there tonight atlfter I get off work... Im a bass fisherman.. this crappie thing is new to me. Cousin was out there Friday night and they caught a lot... only 11 keepers but a lot of action. Thank you for the info. They too fished the deeper side and used a variety of colors... one color would slow down, then theyd switch until that color slowed...

Caught them pretty good in the barge... not many keepers... all on jigs... cold! Depending on the age of the kids they can catch a few Im sure... especially if you slap a minnow on there for them.

GROD thanks for the update. Were there a lot of people out there? I have read in the past it can get quite busy and also there are some of those space invaders. Nothing a couple of kids wild with their poles can't fix.

Depending on age of the kids, its not the most kid friendly barge in my opinion. Could use some updating and floors repaired.

Thanks for the update Paul. I was thinking about making an apperance tonight or tomorrow since this cold stuff has blown in. I agree with you and think the better fish will show up after this front.
