Last I read on here, they do not allow people to ride a bike in either. ????? Maybe that has changed????

I guess the parking lot will be open within a week, so you don't need a bike anyway.
The fishing is getting better over there.

They repaired the culvert, the equipment was still in the parking lot on Saturday, but I haven't heard that the bridge had passed inspection. I spoke with Adam last week and he did not think they would be opening up the gate to vehicle traffic anytime soon. There seems to be some conflicting information. I sure hope they open up the gates, but I'm not banking on it.

I agree with J-Moe. Hey folks, Jamie (J-Moe) or Ben (Hook line n sinker) are the only two guys that post information about things being open or closed on Somerville that I would put 100% trust in believing. They are up to date with their info. So now you know. LOL

From what I heard from park, they will not open up the gate in short time, what they are using is just setting up a collection box for pass. In this way, you do not need to go to nail's park for the ticket pass.

LOL, I saw a few new portal toilets over there, thought that was all they had needed to open for business. To be honest, that bridge is solid to me eye even though I am not an expert on this. I understand they don't want to take any chance for it.

I was told the culverts were repaired, and the bridge is waiting to pass an inspection. this inspection might happen in a few weeks. Like J-moe says... i wouldn't bank on it. We'll see it when we see it.

Shut up and fish!

The new collection box is setup by the gate at Newman's bottom.

I walked into Newman's bottom this morning. On the way in I meet with a couple of college age guys walking in. It was there first time there so they didn't know anything about the area. Since one of them was a fellow Aggie I had to help them out.

I put them in one of my favorite spots and headed to a different spot. I fished for about 20 minutes in that spot and only caught one so I went to a heavier fly. I caught 2 in the next 5 minutes so I figured they were in there. I went back and checked on those guys and they hadn't caught a thing. So I brought them to the next spot and tried to help them out a bit more. I hooked another one in the spot I told them to fish and moved on again.

I went on a bit farther and located some more fish. After I found them it was going good. I caught 5 in the next 8 casts. I put 3 on a stringer and went back to see how the guys were doing. They still hadn't caught a thing so I put them in the next spot and gave them my fish. They still couldn't catch any so I jumped back down and tried again but I couldn't get a bite either.

I left it to them. I ended up with just those 8 white bass. No crappie or bluegill this morning either. I was very surprised with the temperature in the 70s. Hardly anyone was catching. Just one here and there.
