Any tips on targeting lake bluecats from the bank during cold weather? I plan on daylight fishing with cut bait.

Uncle_bagster, for a person to answer a question like that with no lake mentioned, or targeted size of bluecat is very hard if not impossible to do. trlrman gave the best generic answer for the time of year and fishery hes fishing! RightTurnTaxidermy gave a cool answer too! The only answer and best answer would have to come from somebody that fishes the fishery you are fishing a lot and you either have to do the time or sometimes pay for those!!! Now, I wanna add something... Pardners, fishing by the watertemp is only 30 % of the ball game... The other 70, is the fishery!!!! Its the fishery!!!!!! cheers ; ) texas

Weather patterns play a huge part in what the fish are doing. Some days they feed heavy and some days they are locked up. Cold weather makes em go deeper but get a few warm sunny days after a big cold front and you can find em in 2 ft of water trying to warm up. This winter has been particularly tough on me as my normal patters just havent played out like they usually do . Rising and falling barometric pressure can make everything lay on the bottom or flip flopping wind can make em completely scatter. Normally these fronts are fairly predictable patters to fish but this winter everything has been crazy. South wind days with crazy high pressure or NE or E wind days with pressure at 30.0...my lake (Lewisville) normally produces 6-8 fish over 20lbs on avg per trip for me in winter if I get a good south wind but Im only avg 1 per trip this winter. Sucks! Cant remember the last time I got to fish when the lake was on fire and there were busted up bait balls with big cats parked under em.

There is a fine line between fishing and floating around like an idiot!!

I am also confined to the bank currently. I agree with others. WHat lake are you wanting to fish. I fish Tawakoni and i have learned in my few years. To get a good pair of Dry/Warm waders. I walk out up to my chest cast to deeper water and hold on. On Tawakoni the deeper the better.

Lots of good advice. From what I gather, shallow water on a warm day, and fish into a S. wind might be the ticket. Decent weather is hard to come by, though.

Look for large mud lines in the water on these banks.

And it probably won't hurt to use my Catfish Calendar to hit them when the greatest volume of the Blues are on what I term, as their "Roam-Feed Circuit Switch" turned on. Nature seems to have built in a boot to kick them out to go roam for food.
