I follow the Mavericks, and I'm a big fan. This season, well, it's nothing to talk about. In fact, I barely know most of the players.

Anyway, when I was young, I was a big 76ers fan, mostly of Dr. J.
I didn't follow Dallas that much until the Nash/Nowitzki years.

Derek Harper just had his number retired.
The only memory I truly have of him was when he dribbled the ball out and let the clock tick away NOT realizing the Mavs were down.

My questions for Mavericks fans who have followed the team since the beginning.

Is Derek Harper "jersey retirement" worthy?

I'm not saying he isn't. I'm saying I didn't follow him enough during his career.

I had to look it up, but he is fourth in points, first in assists and first in steals in Mavs history. He played 12 of 16 seasons with them.

Yes, he deserves it.

yes. I don't think he is a hall of famer, but he was one of the most important players in Maverick history, second only to the big German.

As a huge Nav fam I kinda think Dorks is the only one whose number should be retired. Even their championship year they won with a bunch of really good role players, not superstars.

So far it's Brad Davis, Rolando Blackman and Derek Harper.

Clearly, Dirk will have a retired jersey. I'd bet he won't have to wait years and years for it either.

I've looked up the Best Mavericks of all-time, and clearly I don't know enough about any of the old players to opine, including DHarper.

Mark Aguirre should be in there somewhere. That guy could score at will seemed like.

Tarpley let his demons and addictions tear his "retirement jersey" to shreds.

What could have been with Tarpley and yes Aguirre could fill it up.

Harper was one of the main reasons the Mavs were tied in the game when he dribbled out the clock. I think he was exhausted and just made a mistake. Deserves it.

Yes, and Id argue for Finley also (Dirk obviously)

Aguirres departure and Kidds departures were not exactly amicable; thus unlikely to have jerseys retired

Derek is definitely worthy of his retirement. The game was played differently back when they played for the Mavs. Not really sure if Dirks teams could have beat them.

Shawn Bradley's number should be next.

Yes, Harper deserves it.

Sorry. Harp was a nice player and a good compliment to Rolando back in the day, but when compared with his peers he was just a better than average defense minded point guard. Never chosen to an All Star team or was even seriously considered. Nice guy. Long career. But I wouldn't have put his jersey in the rafters.

He was on that Moody Madness team. Fans and management look fondly on players who were a part of that. Probably why Brad Davis has the color commentator job.

Derek Harper, yes, one heck of a good Maverick, and "still" part of the organization.

I'd surmise whether he was so good that he deserves a retired jersey, the Mavs organization felt the arena needed another jersey to be hoisted up.

They probably didn't want to wait 2-10 more years for Dirk's to rise.
