For anyone locally who has fished for the last 40 or so years you have probably come across Robert Hargrove. He has been a member of Century Bass Club since it started and had fished every tournament for almost all of those years until the last few while dealing with some health issue's. He is in ICU and is battling for his life with pneumonia and congestive heart failure and a lot of us are hoping for a true miracle to come his way. He has been Angler of the Year in Century 11 times and fished many BASS Federation tournaments through the years and most people if they never actually were blessed to have actually known this man probably at least knew not only his reputation for catching fish but the reputation he had for being one of the greatest man alive. I was given the great opportunity to get to know Robert not as just a club member and former team tournament partner for many years but just as a friend and as pretty much a big brother that taught me more about life than about fishing. He was also bigger than life as an outdoors man. I wish I had a dollar for every time we would be heading down a country road and he would slow down and say, "Look at those deer laying by that tree line." I would say what tree line, you mean that one about 500 yards away. It is not even light yet. We would stop and make some noise and all of a sudden I would see some movement and notice the deer he was talking about. He could see things and hear things no one else could. He is an exceptional person I would really appreciate your thoughts and prayers for him at this time.
Got word that Robert passed away midday today. I lost one of my best friends but me and everyone who knew Robert will have memories that will last our lifetime. I was truly blessed to have been able to spend so much of my time growing up with this great man.
Just wanted to pass along a note that there has been a Go Fund Me Robert Hargrove Memorial Fund to help his family out with expenses. He was such a great friend to so many in the Texas bass fishing community and if you could spare anything at all it would be very much appreciated. Thank you, Tommy

I fished with him in the mid nineties when I was with century - I was just getting started tournament fishing and got to draw him on Martins Creek... he let me come up front and fish. Ive been up front for 20+ years now... Thanks Robert.

I fished Century in the late 80's but unfortunately never had the pleasure of fishing with Mr. Hargrove, certainly my loss. Prayers for his family and RIP.

I fished with him once on lewisville. He injured his back a few days before and couldnt stand up for long periods of time. He literally crawled around the boat to get around. I thought this guy is either crazy or dedicated. Prayers for Robert, his family and friends.

I fished with him once on lewisville. He injured his back a few days before and couldn’t stand up for long periods of time. He literally crawled around the boat to get around. I thought this guy is either crazy or dedicated. Prayers for Robert, his family and friends. One day Robert called me up and said he would need my help for the upcoming weekend Century tournament. Robert was an A/C guy and said he had a small accident at work. He shows up at the tournament with a cast and pins in his arm. And as crazy as we thought he was for fishing, it was even crazier for anyone to think he wasn't going to fish. When we were fishing the old Anglers Choice team tournaments I was totally in awe of the number of people at weigh ins that would come up to talk to Robert. He was known and liked by so many people and there was never anything but smiles and great conversations and I really looked up to Robert and respected the type of man he was and was so glad to be his friend.

Tommy any chance you could post his Century BIO on here? I will try my best but have to admit I am very computer ignorant about such things. You can go to the Century Bass Club website and go to the Angler of the Year page to see some info on Robert.

Going to be a tough weekend. Century Bass has it's first tournament of the year this Sunday. It was only a few weeks ago I was with Robert and we were talking about the upcoming year. My plans are to fish the Ray Hubbard Bass Club like last year and as many of the Century tournaments that I can. I elected to skip this first one to help out with the Illustrious Action booth at the Fun N Sun show. Anytime me and Robert were fishing different tournaments it was just normal that we call each other to see how we did and discuss the day or weekend. It is something I have enjoyed with Robert, my buddy Craig and brother Danny and others down through the years. I don't know what it is but it has always been such a blast to go over the what if's and share great memories that might have happened. The stories about the great fish catch or the heartbreak of losing a fish or just the discussion about what went right on a good day or wrong on a bad day. The strategies that went right or wrong. And one thing that Robert molded into me was that no matter how bad the day was dealing with the weather or bad luck on the fishing or the wrong decisions Robert was never upset. He was just as ready and excited to go fishing the very next day. I have always been really competitive in nature but especially now that I have realized that I am not nearly the angler I was years ago for a lot of reasons, I just really think that my love for fishing was really a result of being with Robert so much and I too never really get down because he taught me to not take it for granted and to always enjoy each day and look forward to the next. Sure gonna miss speaking with him this weekend to see how he did although I am sure it didn't take him long to already get his first limit.

Wish I could have been at the Century tournament for the remembering of Robert at take off but was working at the Fun N Sun show this past weekend and got to visit with a lot of Roberts and my old friends and we did a lot of reminiscing of all of our memories we had with Robert.

Tommy, there were few dry eyes at take off yesterday as we remembered our friend. Rodney (I believe) played a tune thru his boats radio before Roberts name was called.

Tommy, there were few dry eyes at take off yesterday as we remembered our friend. Rodney (I believe) played a tune thru his boats radio before Roberts name was called. Yes I know. It was very emotional for me when I watched it on the Facebook page and wasn't able to be there. It was an emotional funeral yesterday especially when meeting up with Roberts good buddy Bobby Cole who has been fishing with him a lot here the last year or more and we were arm in arm for quite a while remembering him. A lot of the Century Bass family some of which I haven't seen in quite a while came to pay their respects and it was great seeing them. It is going to be difficult since me and Robert always called each other after each tournament to check on one another to discuss the day but I will also know that he will be in my thoughts every time I am on the water this year starting this weekend. Robert was like my big brother and will always be with me.

Just heard this news today as I'm not on the forum much anymore. He was such a good man. Great angler and always treated me fairly. I had the pleasure of fishing with him a few times and it was always an honor. We fished one of the coldest, windiest, wettest is tournaments that I've ever wet a line in, together. After about 2 inches of rain halfway through the day he looks back at me with the straightest face and says "starting to get a little cold, ain't it". I about fell out of the boat laughing. We both ate together at El Chico's afterwards. We were still laughing... You know it's cold when a little Mexican food can't get you warmed back up.
I'll never forget my first top 6 tournament on Lake Belton. On the morning of day one I was heading down to my day 1 draw's boat. In the dark I saw a silhouette approaching me. It was Robert. He sought me out to offer me some very kind words of encouragement. It meant more to me than he could ever know. I'll never forget that. He was the kind of angler that can bend the fish to his will. It seemed like no matter what the pattern was that day, he would still make them eat what it was he had to offer. That is a talent very few have. I know you'll be missed by many sir. Thank you. I'll tie on a "chicken rig" my next time out and I'll do my very best to make them eat it.
