Are the idiots that forget to turn off their sprinklers in freezing weather held responsible for accidents caused by wet roads? http://www.wfaa.com/mobile/article/traff...s/287-504124349If boaters are held responsible for their wake, shouldn't these people be?

I managed a building next to the tollway one time and the sprinkler system would sometimes have some runoff onto the tollway. A guy who rides a motorcycle sent me a letter saying if the water caused him to wreck he was going to sue us. This wasn't in freezing weather, just a little water on the road.

To answer the first question of th post....yes, the companies are responsible. I have first hand expierencd. Good. I just don't understand why it is so hard to turn off the sprinklers. We have a fire hydrant at the end of our street that has been leaking for months. I've called in numerous times, but they still haven't fixed it. It's now to the point it's about 2 feet wide and goes across 2 streets in a Y formation. It's on a curve which makes it worse. It's been frozen for almost 3 days now.

I used to think it was crazy to run the sprinklers during a rain. Found out some sprinkler systems are the newer septic systems and the sprinklers are where the treated water is disposed of. When the tanks get full the sprinklers come on

We're told they'll get it fixed, but... I guess once some driver hits the ice and slides into one of the four houses and kills someone they'll fix it.

As a golf course superintendent this drives me up a wall. Especially running sprinklers when it's raining. I know from experience that once in a while it's just going to happen. But moisture sensors are a reasonably priced addition when installing an irrigation system, especially residential and small commercial.
Go ahead and bring on the 'well I saw it on a golf course...'. It happens, still makes me crazy.

Property companies should have their faces sued off for the hazards they create when their sprinklers run during freezing days , crazy bad news when this happens

SE Kansas grass grower does ice protect grass from freezing? As long as there is no traffic on it, ice won't hurt it this time of the year. Any kind of traffic, whether it be foot, bicycle, car, etc. will cause damage. As far as protecting it, maybe some but not like fruit trees and such. Most grasses can survive some dormancy. Aerobic BELIEVE me, when your new neighbors don't know they're supposed to keep chlorine tablets in the system, and the pump outs are 40 ft from your barn/mancave, and the wind hits just right.....it's definitely "aromatic"
