Do you continue to support a local business even though they cost double or go with the big chain? Local if they have what I need or can order it, if not unreasonably more. We are lucky here two places, one lumberyard hardware store, in my little town and one True Value Haredware 10 miles away, that usually are within a few cents of the big box chains.

Depends on the mood I'm in and how it shakes out between convenience vs. price.

I tried to buy a relay from a local pool supply store today. $132 at the store $20 on Amazon. Same manufacturer same part. Will never go back to that store. Yeah same here. Went to the pool supply store to buy a part, which was just a piece of plastic. I wanted to get it that day and on Amazon they were $12. The guy told me they didn't have them in stock, but they would order it for $60. I told him I would sell him all he wanted for $30 each and he told me to leave the store.

#shoplocal I feel this is a bad choice. I shop local if they have what I need and the price is reasonable. It seems the latter is becoming less frequently

Some things I get mom and pop, depends on what it is.
I quit buying guns, ammo etc local when I lived in Corpus years back. If you have ever shopped at the gun store on SPID in Corpus, the one thats been there forever you will know what I mean.
Thanks, Billy

Unfortunately the pressure on local stores has become so great they can't afford inventory or service. They are doomed in many cases. I would hate to have any financial interests in a Mall as they are obviously in a world of hurt. I fought it for a long time but have given up and just go on amazon. One thing I will not do, which many are guilty of, is go to the local store to get all the information and advice and then buy it online. That is unfair.

Like LSS said it really just depends on what it is. I look for the most knowledgeable clerks running the cash register.

I don't mind paying more to get something right now at my local store. But not twice the price.
I pay about $7 per pound for my favorite coffee beans from Amazon. If I could buy them at a local store, I would pay $9-$10 per pound. But I wouldn't pay $14 (twice the price).

I support my local pocketbook first. If given the same price at both, Ill stay local, but my loyalty is to me. This is what most people do (I believe). Most people preach buy local until it affects them personally. I just had a new home built by a builder that was 40 miles away and saved over 30000.00 dollars. I tried using a local builder but he said he couldn`t build it as cheap as the other person.

One thing I will not do, which many are guilty of, is go to the local store to get all the information and advice and then buy it online. That is unfair. If you feel bad about it, give them a chance to match the price. And don't forget to include tax - they'll have to be about 7% lower than the online price to make up for the sales tax.

I support local as much as possible, but there are times it is impossible. We have a good feed store that has competitive pricing on items, and they carry clothes and some hardware. We also have a True Value that is very good. I have found their pricing to be as good as a big box store on items like PVC fittings, wire, paint, and they sell guns and ammo as well. I also found out one Sunday they are cheaper than TSC that we just got here. Our feed store mentioned above carries premium items you dont get at TSC like Massdom Come Alongs, Sheffield posts and wire, and better feed. We have a little lumber yard that has a decent inventory, and they will match prices from the nearest Lowes which is 40 miles away. We do have to go out of town for groceries, even though we have a small store here. It is a small chain, but it is horrible. We have no Wal Mart but just got a Shopko, and it has prices higher than I have ever seen.
