I'm thinking of buying a couple of either nine or 10 foot scr. I mostly longline with an old 6/7 wt fiberglass fly rod 8 ft. That thing is the toughest rod I have ever owned. I don't like these stinking graphite rods. They snap like toothpicks. I heard that Southern has kevlar rods.

I like the old Phillipson mentioned above, but I always wish it has a couple more feet of length to it. It looks like these Southern Crappie rods might fit the bill for me. What can you fellas tell me about them?

If you're looking for the toughest rod technology has to offer, do some research on G Rods. They are made of graphene (strongest composite known to the civilian world) and it's a Texas based company out of Plano. The owners know more about fishing than most of us, and I can honestly say they make the finest freshwater and saltwater rods I've ever used.

If you're looking for a good rod and are on a budget, might I recommend Pro Angler.

Pro Angler rods in 8 or 10 ft and shipping is free. They won't snap like tooth picks. I've landed catfish up to 20lbs on an 8ft crappie rod. Also seen pics of yellow cats up to 35 lbs landed on these rods.

I have no personal experience with Southern crappie rods. I looked at their website. Looks like they are geared more toward spider rigging then vertical jigging. That may affect the balance and how comfortable they are holding one all day. Look like nice rods and their prices are reasonable.

I've got some Southern Crappie Rods and for the price great Rods.

My go to Rods are www.acccrappiestix.com.

Like anything it's a personal preference.

Best of Luck on whatever you decide.
