A recent post asked what is your go to deep water crankbait color and I was curious as to which deep crank bait was your "go to" since now there are quite a few of them out there.

The question about favorite rod for throwing deep crank baits was also asked and answered not long ago, as well as what gear ratio reel do you like for throwing deep crank baits.

This, now should cover all the bases about deep cranking. LOL

Strike king XD5 or 6... Color I think thats a confidence thing personally, I can say sexy shad or citrus shad but its whatever you like. My rod is choice for those two baits is most others choice (Dobyns 805) but its what you can afford to use is my thoughts.
If Im feeling like spending decent money on a crankbait, the duo realis is a great bait but for overall cost and performance the XD5 or 6 are great baits

I have several of those but didn't know they made it in a silent version. Thanks and Merry Christmas to you too.

6XD, 8XD, DD22, Rapala DT series...

Those are cheap(ish) and flat out work.

BTW TW has the DD22s on sale for under 4$ right now. Might take a look and stock up.

We have digressed to a sad point when old standbys and reliable brands are now referred to as "cheap" even though they still are functional. Livingston and other new kids on the block infusing chips and high tech gadgetry into their products are window dressing. An angler still has to cast, reel, and work the bait regardless. After CAST I saw ads and reviews for crank baits with price points of $125+. This is insanity to me...but then again this is my opinion only. If they were still in production I would have a Big O tied on each trip no matter the time of year. Sadly they are not in production and I retired many of mine to a shadow box.

Spro Little John DD. Honestly, I carry 8 & 10 XD's, Norman DD22 HD's, Berkley Diggers/Dredgers, Rapala DT's, a few livingstons and 6th sense but I couldn't even tell you why. The Spro crankbaits have become my go-to and the rest hardly leave the box.

Interesting, I will have to test out a Little John DD. I haven't thrown one of those.
