What is the most accurate item you can buy to weigh fish on the water?
Reason I ask is I fished the fish and chips, had a 5 and a 4 other 3 fish were 2 pounds
plus or minus ended up with 16.17 pounds 12th place 7 hundredths from cashing a check.
Culled fish by me and my partners eye all afternoon , skinny and long, short and fat in the
back of my mind , did we nail it, did we keep the bigger fish we will never know.
What is the best tool out there ?

Balance beam. Not affected by springs, or electronic weight sensors.

Balance beam will be most accurate to compare 2 fish. Too many influences in scales from writing one fish to weighing another.

Yep...get a good beam. I have been screwed by cheap scales and started more arguments (that I didn't win) over my scales weight vs the tourney scale. Never again. I catch five keepers and then use the beam to cull. Let the tourney scale put me in my place.

We don't even use a scale anymore. If you can't see the difference put them on a beam. Then you know for sure.

I have my own crazy system down that works for me, but I use a scale and a balance beam.
I use the scale mainly to keep track of what weights I have instead of writing it down. but the balance beam never lies.

Every time we put the beam in the the boat we can't catch squat. Take it out and no problems but tend to wish we had it.

I have the same problem with nets.....it's why I've learned to boat flip 6 pounders and down and lip the big ones. The net is always under the throwable and three life jackets and maybe a couple rain jackets.

Maybe you just need to bury the beam under a bunch of stuff.

I do but I have a separate tag that says cull and the TH Marine beam has notches for the tags. To the OP Cul M rite is the most accurate scale to the hundredths and a balance beam is the best combo.
