I have been using the Fit Bit and Fitness Pal deal for a week now, logging everything I eat, I mean everything very diligently.

I have my goal set as the most aggressive it will allow of 2lbs a week, that is 1700 cals before excerise based on my size. Each day I have been well under. I eat lightly and get 12k+ steps. However... nothing? Same as a week ago.

Also I have to re-sync my Fit Bit with the Fitness Pal every other day bcs it stops importing my steps... Any tips on all this?

Does this logging the food stuff really work?

I want to lose 15lbs by end of Jan and so far one week in... flat on weight. Grrrr

Might be your scale is off. Its best to weigh yourself at same time of day each weigh in. For instance if you weigh in after a work out then stick with that routine. I would start by checking accuracy of your scale first.

Scale is killing me. Example this AM got on it, 235.4. Dang it. Same as when I started. Step on it again, 233.8.

Weigh yourself first then if you have access to some weights etc try holding a weight and weigh again. That might show you how much if any your scale is off. cheers

I used the MyFitnessPal app on my phone a few years ago. It was helpful but not sure how or if it has changed with the version today out. I just use a BMR calculator and keep my caloric intake under that. I look at my calories burned from working out as a bonus and don't use them in regards to choosing meals. I pretty well track my progress manually in a noetbook.

I have a fit bit, but really don't use any of the features except seeing how many steps I can get and the time. I keep up with my weight on it so it estimates how many cals I've burned through the day, but between that and two other devices that also calculate it, none come up with the same number so I don't put much into it.

Only sure fire way I know to lose weight is to eat as healthy small portions as you can and to work your rear end off. IMO if you're not sweating for atleast an hour per workout, it's going to take a long time to start shedding lbs.

1 week does not make the Man...Dan. grin What are your typical eating habits? I am older now but I recommend eating more calories early in the day. About the same for lunch and less in the evening. If you workout in the evening load up on fast burning carbs that can give you 1-2 hours of juice...

Scale was good this morning. Weighed myself 3 times and got the same number every time. 233.2.

Working on logging the food and drinks, makes you really think about what you eat knowing how much of your allotment it will take...

So, not that it is telling the true story but 10 days ago I was 237.

And yeah, part of that strategy has been not eating dinner, like after lunch no more food. I am sure thats not good but I am in a hurry lol.

Would you be open to tracking macros? That is really a better fine tuned approach. It breaks down those calories into fats, carbs, and protein. Each person has different "target" amounts for each category. You plug those foods into the calculator and try to reach those numbers each day. My wife has been doing this for a couple years now and loves it. Eats like crazy....not like calorie counters. She doesn't starve. You can find people to calculate your macros based on your activity level and build. It's how the body builders do it. Poppy Locks is who my wife uses....she calculates mens numbers now too.

One downfall my wife recently learned about is this "cheat day" people talk about....you really need to be looking at weekly calorie count, cause one bad meal or night can screw the whole week over. She found some calculations online to show this.

Most people think they can shovel down 1500 calories all weekday long then pound down a 5000 calorie Saturday. It will add up to a bad week.

My wife uses the same app to track her eating. She likes it. No watch for her.

Look for some fluctuations of a pound or 2 or 3. Men vary like that....water weight, bloating, haven't taken dump, ect can vary that number. Water is heavy.

Yes I have heard about counting the macros. Its an option on My Fitness Pal if you pay for the upgraded access.

I need to try something bcs I weighed in this AM 237 again! Thats where I was 11 days ago. Now BBT you mentioned the water, I did drink 5 20oz bottles over night lol. Guess I was thirsty.

Gonna get this thing down, I think the comment about not using the cals burned by working out or steps is spot on. Just look at the total cals suggested for the day and work off that. Gonna try that but man...1700 cals goes fast for a big guy lol.
