So I have long been a fan of tungsten weights. I however have never seen much benefits to the shape differences between the typical worm weights as compared to the flipping weights. I use the traditional shaped worm weights on everything from 1/8oz weights on T-rigs to heavier 1oz weights on C-rigs. What are the benefits of the flipping style weights compared to the worm weights?

I have also tried both styles side by side, same weight, and see no difference in the way they fish. If im not mistaken, I think the flipping weights are a little more expensive than the regular worm style weight.

It's my understanding that the fatter Flipping weights are supposed to work better for getting your bait thru heavy grass....making a bigger hole for your bait to pass thru, but i don't know, i haven't fished a lake with matted grass in years, and back then we just had plain ole lead worm weights.

The flipping weights are typically fatter and make for a more smooth entry when flipping heavy cover. It kind of blocks the cover from hitting the bait imo

This. And I will add that the longer, slightly more cylindrical shape of a worm weight allows for more bottom contact and feel. Also, the inner diameter of flipping weights is designed to accommodate weight pegs easier.

For pegs

I prefer the flipping style, (larger around), trying to match bottom size of weight to the end size of soft plastic being used. This allows more ease when coming thru /over cover, doesn't pull baits down, as bad.

Good info Mark. Looks like Denny leans towards the flipping style/shaped weights for nearly all soft plastic applications. I've always stuck with traditional shaped worm weights but more out of habit(of which I'm a creature). Why I started this post was to study the benefits of trying the flipping style weights. Thanks for the link.
