Do you keep them on ice without gutting them first?

One day at the most! That is the longest I would keep an uncleaned fish on ice. Just my two cents. thumb

I ice mine and clean them when I get home unless at Texoma and I clean them immediately at the fish cleaning station.

always wondered, what is the benefit of icing them compared to just leaving in livewell and cleaning when you get home?

keeps them from spoiling. Once the gills turn pink, they are prolly no good.

A cold dead fish is easier to clean then one flopping around. 2cents

Fish on ice 2 to 3 days at the most drain water from cooler. Do not let fish lay in water if possible. Use plenty of ice. If gut and gilled packed in ice 5 to 6 days. Did this many times on a outpost cabin in Canada.
