I must have hit a big bump yesterday while trailering my Skeeter, and my motormate popped off somewhere along the way. Needless to say I am not impressed with the motor mate and looking for a new option. Prorule certainly advertises a lot, and I've never heard anything bad about them... Yet! Whats the best option? I have a 225 Yamaha V-Max

the truth is you dont need them. They actually are worse. The motor weight of the motor should sit up directly over the transom. A rod that goes from the trailer to the end of the motor only leverages the motor against the transom and causes more strain that it would have.

I've heard that before on the old fashioned long stick transom savers that connect to the trailer. I would never use one of those. I was looking more for something to provide additional support since the engine is so heavy. I'm contemplating just getting steering cable clips and using the built in flip down supports that already come on the transom bracket.

Some recommend it, some don't. I would definitely use one on aluminum boats.

Ranger and Legend recommend one

Those old fashioned ones are actually better for your motor than the "new style"

I like my Motormate and have used one for years. Never had an issue.

You have to run your trim down tight.

Agree. Been using one for thirty years and zero issues.

And I know who "Jeff" is.

I talked to the owner of Johnson Fiberglass and he told me to not use the 'New' H brackets - use the one from the trailer to the motor for better support of the motor. He stated that he has seen more transom stress cracks from guys who use the H Bracket. He also said the anchor poles also put a tremendous amount of stress on the transoms from bouncing around so much.

Picture is from FB and apparently caused by both factors.

Running across a windy lake at high speed puts much more stress on your transom than towing the boat down the hiway. A healthy transom should never fail when under normal use. It is, by far, the strongest point on your boat.

I tow on a lot of crappy roads. I have kept an eye on my motor with h style brackets vs old fashioned stick style. The stick holds the motor much more firm. If you have boat cinched down and trim run all the way in the motor , boat and trailer move as one unit. With h bracket all stress of bumps is on your transom.

I use the Rite-Hite motor holder, never had an issue. Seems to keep the motor pretty stable while towing.

I'm quite sure that my boat gets beat up more towing it than it does on the water. Constantly cringing watching it bounce around behind me

And your tires are absorbing all the stress.
