For me it was not worth the money the resolution was very low you can not make out much on the bottom other than sharp drops seeing laydowns and rock piles is pretty hard to make out. also you have no 455 hrz or 8oo hrz on your side image not sure what they use but u can't adjust between beams i really use my 455 hrz a lot 800 for me just does not work
i sold my 3d and got a total scan
thats my opinion from someone who had the unit for 6 months and is a rank amateur fisherman
also my broke had to send back to lowrance which they replaced free of charge

Thanks m. Sherman, what graph did you run it on? 9/12?

The 3d is great if you get it tuned in. Can never go wrong with a total scan!

I run 3 12" carbons the picture is a lot clearer with 3d, but to use it to its full potential with not having really deep water like 60+ft it's not worth the $ difference then total scan. I run both 3d and total scan so I see the difference.

You like the total scan?

I have had the 3D box for about 9 months now. I have a HDS12. I pretty much have the same opinion as Mr. Sherman above. The 3D is useless in the depths that we need it to be useful. If you pay attention to the videos you see advertising it, you'll see it's in 60+ feet (usually salt water). I have spent a lot of time trying to adjust and tweak it and it just isn't beneficial to me.

With that said, the transducer that comes with the 3D box (maybe the total scan xducer) is much better than the older side xducer. It is not only clearer but in shallow water, side scan will still read. With the old transducer, when I got in less than 10' of water, it wouldn't read much past 20-30' out. This new transducer will read 60' out in 5' of water.

Is it worth the $1k? No. I believe you can buy the transducer separately now for $500. If you are a serious fisherman, I do think it's worth buying the transducer.
