76 years ago. Beginning to be old history to young of today. Not much attention is paid to old wars. The older the event the less important it is to the present generation. In grade school we spent weeks on the Revolution. I doubt that it gets a full 50 minutes in today's schools. WWII is getting to be an event that happened a while ago

Damn Germans sneak attacking us like that was unacceptable. A reference to the movie "Animal House". D-Day: War's over, man. Wormer dropped the big one. Bluto: What? Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? He** no! Otter: Germans? Boon: Forget it, he's rolling. Bluto: And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough...

In 2008 we took a vacation to Hawaii and were at Pearl Harbor on Dec 6. We spent about two hours on the Arizona Memorial and about the same on the USS Missouri. Standing on that white memorial over the Arizona was one of the most solemn, humbling moments of my life. USS Arizona Memorial Oil still leaks from the Arizona and rises to the surface. These are called "Tears of the Arizona" USS Missouri. The Japanese surrendered to General MacArthur on these decks. On of the most sobering experience of my life. We went in '94 while my brother was stationed there. Many Pearl Harbor Veterans were there and it was heartbreaking looking at their expressions.
