My mom and dad were married the day of the bombing. A few years later he landed at Normandy. Quite a start to a marriage, but he never forgot his wedding anniversary.

In 2008 we took a vacation to Hawaii and were at Pearl Harbor on Dec 6. We spent about two hours on the Arizona Memorial and about the same on the USS Missouri. Standing on that white memorial over the Arizona was one of the most solemn, humbling moments of my life. USS Arizona Memorial Oil still leaks from the Arizona and rises to the surface. These are called "Tears of the Arizona" USS Missouri. The Japanese surrendered to General MacArthur on these decks.
Family is everything! Life is precious. We don’t have forever. We have now. This moment. We can choose to love our lives now.

Its an experience that words cant describe.

Thanks for posting. Seems like we pay less attention or homage to that day every year that goes by. "Those who don't know history are doomed..."

My grandmother told us about watching the Japanese planes from her front porch. I cannot imagine witnessing it.

Ever see the movie the final countdown? It hit on this day...
Today is a day that will live on forever. Pearl Harbor is one place I truly want to visit, just for the history.

I was happily surprised at breakfast this morning when my ten year old daughter knew what Pearl Harbor Day was. Pretty dumb move by the Japanese. An attack that was definitely repaid in kind plus a lot.

Today is a day that will live on forever. Pearl Harbor is one place I truly want to visit, just for the history. I saw it in the theater back in the day and a million times on cable. I'm always disappointed when they have to recall the attack at the end of the movie.

Under reported is the fact that a number of civilian areas were also targeted by the Japanese. Civilian houses bombed. Lunalilo High School had its roof blown off by a Japanese bomb. Waikiki drug store totally destroyed.
