I had the honor of taking my buddy and his 6yr old son fishing for his first time yesterday afternoon. We strapped on Juniors life jacket and away we went across the lake. As we motored up to one of my Shad holes, Junior looks at me and asks � what are we using for bait?? I looked at Jr. and sez whatever we catch in our net buddy!� As his eyes lit up with anticipation! First throw we net 25 good gizzards as the little feller looks on in amazement. That should be good I sez but Jr. wanted to make another throw. We motored around and found some bigger marks and i dropped my deep net on em. Bang we got a big carp and more gizzards on the second throw and Junior was starting to get fired up. We took off to where the eaters have been hanging out but there was zero wind so we broke out the planer boards and gave Junior a quick lesson on how to reel in a fish..didn�t take long to get our first takedown. Fish on!!! I sez as Junior grabs the pole and cranks down. Got one! we got one!! He yells. I helped him get the rod out of the rod holder and the battle was on! Junior cranked for a good 10 minutes and finally got the fish to the boat. We need the net! Juniors got a monster I yelled! and Junior landed a 6lbr! We fished for another couple of hours and Junior landed 4 more small blues. We ended up with 10 fish and 3 huge smiles! Junior is now hooked and can�t wait to go fishing again! Mission accomplished gentleman! On our way back Junior sez he wants to come back and fish for the big fish that eat carp! Future big cat hunter right there for sure!

Junior said he wants to come back and catch one that big enough to eat big carp! Lol!! Good stuff!

Good on ya, Bro! I still have faded memories of some of those early trips of my life! Life-long memories! It's awesome you got him started right! I'm just off the lake and my smile is almost as big as his! Great weekend!

That's how it started for me 34 years ago. Fishing has kept me out of so much trouble. But more importantly some of the best memories of my dad and some of my best conversation with my heavenly Father has happened fishing.
