Nice! When it is in the right spot, it only take a couple of hours.

They roam around at night so usually it can start "next day". All depends on if it's the best cover they can find with the sun is rising.

I know they move around at night. Cause fishing slows down at night. So far.

And if they all disappear one day, you will know someone put some new brush in the area & everybody relocated.

if you can find the coves and slews that the crappie chase the shad into at night you can find the crappie. usually a channel that juts off of the nain river channel that is deep or has a deep hole where the baitfish can be cornered into, like a deep bend. the baitfish arent going to stayb in thier all night, they move in, feed or seek safety in the shallower areas, then move out. Sometimes they do it in cycles, different schools of shad and different schools of gamefish at different times. Ive always felt like if you want to really understand crappie fishing and movement, do some nightime fishing. Im not talking about staying for an hour after dark. Stay all night or most of the night. once you find the coves and creek channels that the crappie go into at night, chasing the baitfish, try to locate likely areas where the shad would have to bunch up, like in a deep turn, or ledge. Drop some brush deep, like 28 to 32 feet, then bait it out with buckets of soured chicken scratch , sheep and goat mineral blocks, (they contain mollasses and other minerals that attract baitfish, you can get them at tractor supply for 9.00). sacks of dog food, commercial sold attractants, like crappie king cakes, (greg culverhouse), sells those.. you need something to try and keep the baitfish in the area longer, and more concentrated. you can find the most likely places where the fish will go at night by studying navionics online. I could look at a map of most any lake, and tell you where the fish will go at night. ive done ALOT of night fishing in the past. every night the roaming situation takes place. look for coves that the wind primarily blows into is a good place to start, and also study the map.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

one more thing, dont underestimate how deep crappie can be, I have personally caught them down to 42 feet, and know a guide that regularly trolls deep for whites, that has caught them at 50 feet. There is a point on stillhouse lake in central texas we used to fish, it is 42 feet with deep trees, we used to go tie up, put out lights, and fish 4 cranks off the bottom and catch lots of crappie. this slight point, was the fist stop on the way into the cove that had some structure and cover on it. it is right off of the main channel. we never had much luck fishing in the cove behind the point, but there is no deep defined channel that runs into it, its just a bowl. shad went into that cove, but it is so spread out and has non remarkable features, the fish didnt get bunched up. They gathered on the deep point, waiting to ambush crappie going into the cove though.
