Looking at a mega or non mega. You can get a g2 chrip non mega for 1k in a 10. The megas is pretty sweet tho. Screen type is what you can afford. I'd get a 9 over a 10, but a 12 over a 10. Based on price point.

10 has the best pixel density for clarity. Huge upgrade from 9 to 10, not so much from 10 to 12.

Go as big as you can afford and as big as makes sense in your space. Bigger is better when you are running a split screen.
The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

10 has the best pixel density for clarity. Huge upgrade from 9 to 10, not so much from 10 to 12. This is spot on. My 9 on the bow is not nearly as sharp as my 10 at the console. 12 is a nice unit but not worth the extra money to me. I'd say get the biggest your budget will allow.

i appreciate all of this feedback. thats where i am at. i didnt think the 12 was worth the extra coin. budget isnt a problem i just want to make the best informed decision possible and a google search hasnt yielded much in usable information.

Are you talking about Gen 1 units? I have the 10 at the bow and a 12 at the console. The 12 is nice because I run a lot of split screens so the extra 2" help plus you get the benefit of CHIRP. CHIRP really impressed me on the clarity. Bait balls are no longer just a blob, it will separate the individual fish. To me the extra $350 would be worth it but either unit is nice.

yes sir i am. on the 12 is there a clarity improvement on DI with chirp or are the differences in 2d only? The first generation Helix 12 models are CHIRP 2D only. The G2 and G2N models of all screen sizes are CHIRP sonar and CHIRP Imaging.

thanks for that info mr wayne! i thought with it being the same "look" it was relatable to the DI as well and would improve performance.

I'm throwing one out for MEGA. Unbelievable how crisp the images are. Night and day between 1100 series I've always had

I'm going to be downsizing from 4 units to 2. I figure I can make a little cash and upgrade to the 10s and wait a couple years for the mega to hit the same price point. I'd pay the extra for 12" if it was mega but being gen 1 I just don't see the need.

Does mega 9 also have the same shortcomings when compared to mega 10?
