Parks&Wildlife will be stocking the Guadalupe River the next two months each week starting Friday. There are also two more cold fronts on the way. Who is GOING FISHING? Side Note: We can use some RAIN! Banana Rain Dance back in service!

I know I can probably find the answer digging, but figured I ask here since you guys actually catch stocker trout. What time do they usually dump them in and how long do you usually wait to try to catch them?

8-10am sometimes a bit later and they start biting as soon as they hit the water usually.

Depending where you fish. Here in my area the truck usually arrives between 9am and 12noon. As for when they bite it is hard to say. Sometimes it only takes a few minutes after the drop. I have seen where they do not bite at all. Have patients. Soon or later they will turn on.

Thanks for the answers guys. I'm trying to pop my texas stocked trout cherry this year. Haven't had too much luck in the past, but I really was just using bluegill bottom rigs with worms at the stocked locations, and would give up after a half hour of no bites. I'm a little more prepared this season.

Something to keep in mind, I think, is that they tend to school and you have to get on top of them. I see a lot of people go to the ponds, pick a spot, catch nothing, and leave. Nope. I think finding the school is more important than what you throw at them. I've seen person after person limit out throwing to the same school using different bait/lures. If the water is low visibility and you can't see them, try going in the morning especially when they are surfacing/jumping.

I'm a little more prepared this season. Get some of these. Fish them on 2-4 lb line with either a small split shot or even weightless on a thin wire hook. You can get them at Cabela's and other places. One of the best trout baits made.

I just got back about half an hour ago, fished for about 1.5 hours at the Texas Freshwater Fishery in Athens. I ended up with about 8 trout and I caught one catfish.
Gear: I used a tiny silver spoon with a single barb-less hook, one that I posted a pic of a few weeks ago. For the 8 I caught, I hooked and missed another 8, then had dozens of taps where they'd pick it up but not get hooked. Oh! And I used my G-Rod trout rod and it'd cast the spoon just about all the way across the two ponds I fished. Gosh, it loads up and really tosses light lures very far.
Conditions: It was sunny and warm so the "bite" wasn't spectacular but steady. Agreed! Look for the schools . . . there will often be 10 or more chasing around together. Just cast in front of it by a few feet and hang on.
Trout: These trout were smaller, some in the typical 12" size, but more that were about 9" in length. One of the employees out there said they were supposed to stock some larger trout a bit later.
***Flags - - - Winchester Park will get them stocked 12-3. I'll wait about a week and head over there for a "compare" with the fishery.
Trout fishing with light tackle is great fun!
