Orig post said Sunday or Monday.....

anyway... So we fished Monday, saw birds immediately @ about 8:15 so couldn't resist. Chased striper under birds until about 10:00 AM. They were all deep. Had to let the bait sink down to about 35 - 40 feet and then start your retrieve. Ended up catching about 15 - 18 stripers, biggest being about 20 inches, but most between 16 - 18. Forgot there was no size limit, so we only kept the 3 over 18.

Ended up catching this: (can anyone identify it?)

So we didn't start fishing for smallies until about 10:15 or so, and it was bright blue beautiful sunny skies. Started on the S end of the dam and fished the shoreline while we kind of worked our way over to the west of Eisenhower State park. Tried to find different rock structure and points, different depths, ect... We threw jerkbaits, square bills, carolina rigged craw baits, rattle traps, shakey heads with tube jigs, and so on...... We never got another bite. Fished from 10:15 until about 2 PM. Kinda frustrating, but I guess I can't expect a home run the first time I ever target the species.

So what was the problem? Waited too late? Too sunny? Should I have focused on finding baitfish? Tried the marinas/docks?

Oh well, it was a blast catching the stripers, here are some pics:

Not a gizzard. Looks like a gold eye herring.

Caught my first smallies this past week up at Beavers Bend. We were staying in the park...the cabins right on the river and I was just messing around with a small, clear spook and caught about 3 in about 30 minutes. Then it shut off. Fun while it lasted.
