Decided to go to Monticello this morning, haven't been since the late 90's. Wanted to try out a new swim bait I bought and a hook setup Ken A. recommended. I must say the thing casted great and look great in the water even in windy conditions. Everything went pretty smooth today. The C-rig I had set up casted into the wind really well on my 7'6 MH rod and Garcia 5500c reel, not one backlash. The T-rig with 1/4 bullet and pumpkin green rage craw casted really well too with or into the wind. Even the Arkansas Shiner fluke on my 6'6" rod and Quantam reel worked really well though I had to use a little side arm action when casting into the wind. Only issue I had was because I got there a little late I had #82 to fish the bridge and it was almost 11am before it got to my number. I didn't get to try the railroad bridge because there were 28 boats tied to each other across the front but it was ok because I hadn't finished casting my new Denny Brauer Jig and green pumpkin rage craw in the creek across from the railroad bridge. That jig is a real hoot to cast on my 7'0" heavy action rod and Garcia 4600c reel. All in all I had a spectacular day casting but both arms a little tender I have to admit but it happens after 11 to 12 hundred cast. Already planning my next trip to 'ol Monti and this time I'm trying out my new Strike King 10XD on my 7'6" medium action rod and Garcia 5500c reel with 12lb. flouro. Hope it's windy like today cause I want to see how it performs into the wind. Hope this report helps and remember, tight lines ya'll.

Talked to a guy at the ramp and he overheard a man and a woman say they thought they might have had a bite but it was just talk I think.

Tried to help a guy in a Skeeter that had a dead battery but he was able to jump it off. I fished from the Lilly pads up north all the way to the south end by the levee. Fished the bridge and everything in between and never got bit once. Wish I had went to Welsh instead. Think I'll stick with Fork, Tawakoni and Cedar Creek from now on.

Best report from Monti I have read! Man that lake is Fishing terrible It is Jake and I don't know why. That report was a little tongue-in-cheek and self deprecation. Have to keep a sense of humor on those days when it's tough. We've all had them even the best. Never saw one bent pole and I was around a lot of boats. Soon as that brown bubbly foam goes away on Fork I'll be back.

Nice "PLUG" report Gig'em Glad you liked it Doug, gotta have a sense of humor about these things and I thought it was kinda funny. Fish out smarted me, gotta hand it to'em. I like fishing win, lose or draw. I've recovered and ready to go again.
