Back in 2001 I got to have lunch with the legend himself, Yes that's right, Ray Scott. Since Earl Bentz is no longer associated with Triton I figure I can tell this now and not get sued. wink

I was at the Dallas Boat Show wearing my Triton Boat jersey helping North Texas Marine back about 2001. I knew Ray Scott and Earl Bentz was supposed to be there in our booth at some point that day. Ray had just published a new book and was going to be there to sign autographs in our booth. He was also there promoting Triton. coolio

Ray and Earl show up about noon and they get him set up with a desk and table. The line starts to form. I wait until the line dies down then I go over and intro myself to Ray. I had always admired Ray from afar. I mean, who hasn't!!??? He is only the MAN THAT INVENTED COMPETITIVE BASS FISHING!!!!

I had been to several events he emceed but had never actually shook his hand until this day. I ask him if he liked Pappadeaux's Seafood. He says, "Boy do I ever!" I tell him there is one five minutes down Stemmons and I was buying. He looks around and there was nobody standing there wanting an autograph so he says, "Let's go boy!" bolt

We get a table and sit and talk for 2 hours. Ray tells me one story after another. It was a HOOT! He is one of the nicest men I have ever met. He talks to me like I am his best friend, very sincere. We go back to the boat show and Earl Bentz is mad.
I mean he is STEAMING MAD!! flame

A little while later Joe Wallace, owner of NTX Marine comes up to me and says, "Where have y'all been!??" I simply say, "We went to lunch sir." He tells me that Earl had paid Ray to be in our booth for four hours and I had just taken up two & a half hours of that!!

Pure greatness... I actually got to shake his hand at the Elite series on eagle mountain way back when. I was talking to KVD and KVD says here comes Ray Scott, KVD got a hug, I got a handshake.

Never met the man...but KVD ? Yes. I had a KVD Bobble head and I was gonna put it on his truck. He caught me, autographed it, and stuck to the hood of my jeep.

Got stuck with the check eating dinner with Tommy Biffle in Branson. His room was next to mine and Pruetts. met him when he wanted to use my extennion cord. My boat was backed up to my door and he got there too late and had to park a few rows away from the doorways. He said he'd buy dinner.....ha. Whatever. He's from Oklahoma ya know. .....and he can eat!

Got to shake hands with him at mega bucks event( I think was the name) on Richland Chambers. Finals were on white rock lake. Was a terrible weather tourney, but got my bass club hat signed by a few of these guys. Rick Clunn, David Fritts, Roland Martin, Larry Nixon, Jimmy Houston ( I think that's it). All were very kind and great gents to me ( except Roland Martin).Never forget it was so cold and windy and Clunn was fishing in flip flops.

Good job Ken and thanks for posting that. I knew folks would enjoy that story and relate to it. All of us owe a debt of gratitude to Ray Scott for his vision and all he has done for the sport. Never be another like him.

Yes sir. I ran Bullets back in '93-'95. Then to Gamblers then three Tritons then back to Bullet before the Legend I have now.

I only have one question Ken, my friend, what was his actual facial expression when you said your first words to him, revealing yourself as the Korean Cowboy?!?!?

Cool! Anyone know who wound up buying his property? Sure wish I had a few million laying around when it went up for sale!

In 1987 I went to work for Humminbird and Mann Lures.
Mr Scott was in Eufala a lot with one of his best friends Tom Mann.
He would drop by our sales meetings and visit with us. Very nice gentleman.
I got to hang with several of the old greats back then at shows and tournaments I had to work the tents.
Hank Parker was always around, Jimmy Houston and his wife. Still stay in touch with them through hunting.
Really great people.

Holy cow! Flash back! I met him at that same show. My son was 7 and I got a picture of Ray and my son standing in front of a Triton. Ray was a very nice guy and talked to my boy for about 5 minutes.

Cool story.
