Having a very bad experience with Progressive
Hit a rock on the Red River and damaged lower unit
Shop determined the prop shaft was bent and bottom of skag was broken off and one blade was broke on prop
Progressive is refusing to cover the prop because in their assessment since only one blade was damaged that it was not possible to have been caused by the rock that the other two blades would have to have been damaged
Even though they admit the shaft was bent and skag broken they still refuse to cover the prop

This is the most arrogant agent I have ever talked to and if anyone knows of a state agency where I can file a complaint I would appreciate knowing

I urge all boat owners to never use Progressive and when it’s time to renew please go anywhere else to save yourself from the misery I am goi g through

You sometimes make a mistake by marrying a skag (or is it "scag"?), but you bend the SKEG on your outboard.....

You can change insurance providers at any time, not just when an insured period of time ends. A per day pro-rated refund will be given for unused time in the insured period. You can then start a new policy period with a new provider.

There is usually an appeals process for denied coverage. Arguing with an agent isn't it, I'd bet. Getting the shop that assessed the damage to write an explanation as to how the observed damage is feasible probably is a more reasonable part of that process. Damage to one blade is feasible in a single collision event, you're just unable to explain why, and you're telling it to the wrong person. It will also need to be written clearly and submitted for review by the claims investigator, not your agent.

I've had two large claims paid by Progressive without any problems. But my agent is Bob at Worldwide Marine Insurers and he's about as hands on as any agent I've ever known. You should give him a call when you make the change.

I use Progressive through USAA. Hit a submerged bridge last week, replacing lower unit and new prop as I type. Also minor hull damage. I have no problem with Progressive..

Progressive is typically the easiest to deal with at my shop but it also varies per adjuster. You can request that a 3rd party marine survey look at the damage and give his assessment.

Progressive screwed me out of a legit claim 10 years ago. They haven't seen a dime from me since.

It may be your adjuster, I've never had any problem with Progressive covering damages. They pay quick too

go above the adjuster and speak to his superior and voice your concerns, keep climbing up that old corporate ladder until someone gives you the results. the squeaky wheel gets the grease..

Good to hear, I just changed to USAA last month. All of my insurane, home, car, truck, rv etc. USAA doesn't cover boats though but as you stated they use Progressive. So I now have Progressive for the boat. That was hard to swallow for me since progressive the company is progressive.

Progressive can be a bad choice. We lost thousands on our claim when it was totaled in a fire. We were rooked from the beginning. First red flag was when adjuster said he was in a hurry to get back to Waco for a ball game and rushed the inspection. Secondly, we submitted at least a dozen comparables with photos and details for the fair market value. Ranging anywhere from 10,500 dollars to 12, 500 dollars. Even gave them direct NADA values. Progressive refused to pay more than 4500. The final insult was when they finally admitted that the adjuster had determined his value based on 1 phone call to one dealer. Thirdly,The claims department was very rude with each phone call and seemed highly offended that we were even checking the value of our boat and disputed their opinion. Progressive insurance may have funny commercials, but their insurance is not worth a dime!

Adjusters are contract hires, rarely work directly for the company, they call who's in your area. You need to speak with someone who has experience with boat claims, direct from the company, not the Adjuster, not your Agent, but your Agent should also go to bat for you. I use Traveler's.

I didn't have a claim but my boat dealer asked what insurance carrier I had....I told them progressive and they said they had problems with Progressive replacing lower units with new lower units for the Mercury Pro XS..they wanted to buy a remanufactured unit for it.....that causes problems with Mercury warranty for those that have original or extended warranty with mercury for future and and caused problems for other customers....

yep, finding out the hard way also! lower unit damage at Fork. skeg, propshaft, prop, seals.
find out my agreed value policy is really only good if you sink it!
being that boat is over 10 years old, depreciation is going to be 80%.
can buy another lower for cheaper than repairing this one!
so much for 300000/100000 insurance, but on the bright side, I've never had a claim!!! so no deductible !!! LOL !!!!

I love the smell of 2 stroke in the morning !!!
