What the heck should I be throwing on Lake Welsh right now?

And how is the ramp?

Watermelon red brush hogs and flukes. Was there twice in the last week. 50 fish one day 35 the other. Nothing big but lots of fun. Lots of healthy grass.

Ramp sucks is as usual. Looking at the ramp from the lot right hand side is silted in, stay to the middle or slightly left.

Ramp on Welsh has always sucked. I'm talking about for the last 30 years. Not a fun ramp to use alone. Drops off FAST/STEEP when the ramp enters the water. Completely wrong angle for driving on your "drive on trailer". Not a big deal when you have a buddy when loading. By yourself? Well you'll figure it out. Welsh is usually worth it though!

Fixed it for you! roflmao

I do resemble that statement. Got there late, so no one was at the ramp. After that, I started leaving the bow hooked until I stepped from the ground to the boat...

Wow! 30 Years! Seriously. What would it take to fix this ramp? Even if they did a lick and a promise. Power plant lakes in Texas are known for lowering their water levels to fix things, right?!?! Why not fix the dang ramp this time?

I always figured since it didn't bring in money (free to launch) unlike all other power plant lakes they don't pay to fix. I wish it would get fixed. The ramp and parking lot area are main reason I don't go to Welsh unless I have a club tournament there.

First time I fished the lake was in 1992. The ramp and parking lot was much worse than it is today. The ramp is just the old road bed. Used to be you almost needed a four wheel drive to get out. There is not much they can do about the ramp other than possibly clearing out the silt.

Parking lot and approach/boat make ready area is much, much better than it was. Someone actually leveled out the ruts in the approach down to the ramp and in the parking lot since last year. They also removed some of the annoying speed bumps. I have no idea who did this.

There was also a small convenience store on the right hand side right before the turn into the parking lot. It is all grown over now. You used to be able to park in the old lot. That was along time ago.

Ya, the original ramp 30+ years ago was simply the old county road going into the lake. Many years ago they graded off/enlarged the LITTLE turn around, concreted the ramp and put in the giant speed bumps to keep someone from flying down the hill and into the lake. Unfortunately the concreted ramp was the same bad angle as the original road was. The old grown over store is Swanno Grocery(Welsh is on Swanno Creek). Used to have a grill and a few rooms to rent. The much needed upper parking was added many years ago. The whole area was a bustling little community in the winter many, many years ago. Sad little abandoned(mostly) area now.

How about a "Fix the Ramp" honor box?

OK, like Monti I have fond memories of decades of fishing Welsh. Never forget the time this bubba quickly backed down the old road in his lifted "monster truck" looking 4x4 till his little john boat all rigged into a serious looking bass rig floated out of the back of his truck. Guarantee the back was in 6' of water. Talk of the ridiculously steep ramp reminded me.... noidea

I've only been on the lake once, but thought the ramp was pretty decent... other than being hard to see when backing in the dark. Way better than Mountain Creek or even the pancake flat ramps at Grapevine IMO, but I may be easy to please.LOL.

getting to the ramp is worse than the ramp in my opinion, every once in awhile someone will bring in a backhoe & scrape the sediment and mud off the ramp but it fills back in pretty quick, used to be a ramp on the east side but it has been overgrown and I think it's private property now, use to use it back in the day but its real shallow

You just gotta be careful when backing down cuz if you go too slow the front of your TM will hit bow roller. Just get to where the boats almost floats off and then back down a little more with an abrupt stop so boat floats off without hitting anything; and then when loading up, just load it real dry and have someone strap it before pulling out. It's definitely a very steep ramp but very doable if you have common sense.
