Ran the boat on Friday and everything worked great. Saturday morning I put in and it cranked fine. I was idling waiting for my partner to park the truck when I realized that the tank that I was running on was almost empty. I switched tanks and the motor died. It would not restart (which isn't normal). I pumped the fuel ball and it was dry and would not pick up fuel. After trolling to a sheltered cove I was finally able to get the fuel ball to pick up and get tight, but the motor still would not start. when I turn the key, there is a high pitched alarm going off constantly. The problem is not the kill switch unless it is a wiring issue, the lanyard is properly attached. What else would cause this alarm/no start issue? It is a 2014 Yamaha 250 SHO.

I have seen it 3 times that an SHO would not start because of it blowing the fuel pump relay fuse but they didn`t have an alarm. Wouldn`t hurt to check. Green 3 amp under a plastic cover high on the starboard side.

Experienced Yamaha gray tops get air locked at the fuel/water separator. If you have one in your boat, loosen the separator canister and see if it is full. If not, fill it with fuel manually then pump primer bulb and crank motor.

definitely not the kill switch. I've been there before. I found a blown 30 amp fuse under the cowling. Picked up replacement fuses and will try it later this evening. I saw a few posts on the Skeeter Boat Owners Group about this issue that pointed me there. The fuses under the cowling are the smaller ones than in the boat fuse block, so I didn't have any of that size on the boat already. I will from now on. I'll update whether or not that solved the problem in case anyone else has a similar issue.

Update: The fuse solved the problem. I guess I shouldn't switch tanks with it running. I had done it before with no problem, but that is all I did when it happened.

I talked to Yamaha about this 3 years ago and they claimed to know nothing about the issue.
