got to the point that cable came off when trying to stow. have been standing on mount to get it t release. let me know if you know the cause.

The stabilizer bar (aluminum bar that contacts the deck of the boat)is probably not cut short enough so it is putting too much tension on the release mechanism when the trolling motor is stowed. It is threaded so try to adjust there. If it is maxed out take it for and shave an 1/8" off and re-check.

A lot of guys that have had issues like you describe have had the mount twist a little when tightening the bolts down. Try backing them off a hair and seeing if it gets better. If it does then you know that's the issue. Then you can tighten them down one at a time and check the stow and deploy. You will have to play with them a little to see what works
