Does someone have the wire color code id's for both the old (1987, old) and the new Yamaha 704 main (ignition) switch? The issue is connecting a new bullet-style switch to the old harness style connection.

I have to replace my worn ignition switch (without the push-to-choke feature) because it's engaging the starter while the engine is running.

I did get an OEM adapter (704-82541-10) and the new switch wires don't match the adapter wire colors--could be the wrong adapter. While I'd prefer to use the adapter, it looks like I'll be solder-splicing to the old switch harness connector. The wire codes will confirm I'm doing it right.

Thanks in advance,
ed

Why can`t you get the correct switch? http://www.divemaster.ca/Yamaha/wiring_color_codes.html

Interesting that Yamaha is the only manufacturer that doesn't use the standard marine wiring code.

Yah, I better look at the parts some more before I get too far into riggin' it.

It's already been heavy year doing the "this old boat" thing. I'm just having difficulty getting excited about throwing another buck-fifty at a simple part--it is cheaper elsewhere, but I'd rather it be OEM and much cheaper.

Lol, no need to repeat it (re. boats being holes...)
