Carp! My gf said it was a sunfish.  Nowhere near as fun as that trophy 13" redear I caught many years ago. I don't have the pics anymore but at least some of you saw it. I doubt I ever catch another 13"+ in my lifetime. If any of ya'll still have a photo of that beast...post it up. A "wild" trophy sunfish is a rarity.

I released it unharmed...go get him. Might not wat to use you UL rod though. Caught this one on ultralight tackle using six pound test line! I know it does not come close to yours. Ultralight tackle would be no match for the size of your fish! Side Note: Also released to fight again!

I would like to beat my own 13" redear record or make some water body records this year with panfishing. I don't have much time to fish but I'll see how it goes and start keeping track of PBs. I'm all carped out anyways and got rid of all my carp tackle years ago. Sure they look cool because they are big but I'm far from believing in makes anyone a superangler. Give me a day fishing panfish with an old timer and some good stories anyday over a big carp.

We caught several nice Redear that were 12.50". Most of the fish caught that day were 10" plus!

Chasing crappie and catfish right now, but by April, will go back and see if they are there. Crickets and trout magnets on ultralight or flyrod.

It came out of this virgin pond out in the woods that no one ever fishes. Literally the second your bait hits the water either a giant bass or crappie nails it. But we were fishing for crappie with minnows and ended up catching giant gills the whole time. This was the biggest, the picture doesn't do it justice, this thing looked like a dinner plate in real life. Must of been warm because we almost stepped on a pygmy rattlesnake on the long walk out there. Sad this property is selling to some dallas people so i won't be able to go back unless i can get a chance this week.

Thanks laker one. we have been getting a bunch of really nice copper nose on clouser sand buggers. They are mixed right in with the sandbass is whats weird.

Thanks laker one. we have been getting a bunch of really nice copper nose on clouser sand buggers. They are mixed right in with the sandbass is whats weird. Don't have many White Bass on the water bodies I fish. I usually get some nice Bluegill mixed in with the Crappie!

Thanks for the welcome back guys. I caught that thing in lake havasu while they where bedding in May. We caught about 30 of this monsters between 2-3+ pounds. That place is incredible

Thanks guys! Great looking fish Vogey fayette fish sure can put a good fight in ultralight Fred! If you have a picture of that GIANT Rio you caught on the Guadalupe River PLEASE POST it! That one was HUGE! Also the other MEGA GIANT you caught on that private pond if you have a picture of that Rio post it also! Those were two of the BIGGEST Rios I have ever seen! To Fred they were just another nice catch!

Side Note: The current Catch&Release Record Bluegill is 10". Your fish would beat that. There is also no weight record Bluegill for Lady Bird Lake.

Chuck...It was this year...probably June or July after I switched from night crawlers to Gulp Alive...did not weigh or measure it, but it is the biggest one I have caught to date...

Nope not a surprise at all. I went on a guided striper trip on Lake Whitney for my Honeymoon back in 98. My new bride caught all but one of the fish and caught the biggest to boot. The good Lord takes sees fit to take care of them folks over us ugly old men.
