I'm looking into buying a new boat next year, and wanted to know who has the better fuel consumption Evinrude, Mercury or Yamaha? And about what MPG am I expecting to see? is 4 stroke better than 2 stroke on MPG?

Evinrude's G2 supposedly has the best fuel consumption on most reports that I've seen.

A 4 stroke will give you better fuel consumption because it burns the fuel more completely. My Merc is at least 1/3 better than my old XR6. As far as what to expect, there are way to many variables to say you'll see X increase with XYZ motor.

Know nothing about the new Evinrudes, but between the Merc. or Yamaha going on a 21' Ranger, I would probably go with the Yamaha due to it's low end giddy up. I would concentrate on performance, cost, warranty and service availability instead of MPG.
Currently Yamaha offering 6 years warranty thru 11/21 and Merc. offering $1000.00 rebate thru Dec 15.

Evinrude G2 is claiming 10-year warranty or they are calling it coverage.

Evinrude G2 is claiming 10-year warranty or they are calling it coverage. It's a 10 year 1000hr warranty except in Florida where they get unlimited hours due to Fl. laws. I have the same warranty on my G1. Only real requirement is to have the 5yr/500hr service performed or 3/300 for the G1's.

I've owned a Ranger 372 with a 150 Merc since I bought it new in 97. As far as I'm concearned, Mercury is what I want. I'm a little worried about Evinrude as I've heard that they break down a lot. If you look on the motors on BASS they are just about all Mercury. The new SHOW's are great from all the guides that I have talked to, plus they are so quite.
It will be nice to not have to drive without having to worry about fuel consumption, my current boat only has a 15 gallon fuel tank, and it gets 1 MPG.
I know most boats have 40 to 50 gallon fuel tanks, so that takes care of most of the problem.
When I go to Mexico Bass Fishing I don't want to leave the resort for a week so the better fuel consumption the better off I am. Heck when I go to PK running from Rock Creek to Neely's Slew, I'm done empty practically.

If your current boat is the 150 Merc you have something bad wrong, getting 1 mpg. It should be getting 3mpg at a minimum.

Man....my Yamaha 4stroke is a gas guzzling beast. But it runs great and is almost Lexus quiet.
I THINK it is getting around 2-1/2 mpg at 6500 rpm
The sweet spot is around 4500 rpm, but in my boat 4500 is around 40mph and that's too slow ...
