Has anybody ever tried their hand at peacock bass fishing from the bank in and around Lake Ida and the canals that feed her from the bank? Thinking about making the drive down from Kissimmee on my day off.

Ask that question on micro skiff.com and I'll be you get an answer. Lots of Florida based anglers on there.

Peacock fishing along the canals works better from a boat in the center of the canal and cast lures to the bank for retrieve. This is because the peacocks hang on the ledge drop a few feet out from the bank, and when a lure comes overhead, they lock on it and follow it out to strike. Retrieving in the opposite direction might not work as well, though it can be done.

Also, most of the canal banks are private property, so you can't get to a lot of that approach. When I lived there, we didn't find them in the lake as much as we did the canals.
