Hi guys, I need a new rod for jigging. Specifically for throwing back into residential docks on Lake Conroe. I'm new to Jig fishing but I need to know what kind of rod I need. Thanks! It would also be nice if it could be $80 or under!

I use a jig 95% of the time and the rod(s) I Love are the Dobyns sierra series SA 766FLIP SA 735C http://dobynsrods.com/rods/sierra/not in the price range you were looking for but worth it. They also have the New Dobyns Colt series that is in the 80$ range. I have fished with these and they are great rods for the price! CL 703C CL 704C CL 734C This is the model I used and it did well fishing with jigs. http://dobynsrods.com/rods/colt/Also check out the Fury series if you want a rod between the two models from above http://dobynsrods.com/rods/fury/

There are a lot of rod manufacturers that make rods that will work but it depends on what weight jig you are going to throw and are you planning to skip the jig under the dock or just pitch to the dock. For skipping I use a 6ft 8in M/H Kistler LTA and a 1/4-3/8 oz V&M swim jig. For pitching I use a 7ft Kistler KLH rod and 3/8-1/2 oz flipping jigs. The rod I use for skipping has a softer tip action than the rod I use for pitching. If you have a certain brand that you like, see what they offer that will work for what you want to do.
Many people on here have commented on the Ethos rod (Academy brand) and they seem to like them and they are in the $70 price range.

The Dobyns are awesome. I love the Champion 744 its awesome. But if you want a more budget friendly version the Colt and Fury have some too, I also have a 704 in both models and they are great

I don't know how to explain the difference between flipping and pitching so the easiest way to see the difference is to watch some youtube videos on each technique. Pitching gives you more distance with a bait. Flipping is quietly placing the bait at a specific target closer to you. Basically you drop the bait on their head. Tommy Biffle is a master at "flipping".
Most people that "flip" a bait will use a long rod, 7ft 6in or longer.

But i would say the 734 is easier...if fishing thick brush id go with the 735 or if you are throwing 1/2oz or more most of the time.
